Default Car Alarms : Help Required!

Hey guys, I've been looking to improve my car security, and have decided that I'd like a Clifford Avantguard 5.5.

Basically, the cheapest place I've found was from Ebay. Fully fitted for 430 quid. The thing is, how do I know they're a legit company? And how do I know that they'll do a good job?

Has anyone got any recommendations as to where I should go for an install?

I've tried "yell.com" for installers, but the closest places are really in london..
I live right next to Stansted airport, but would travel if needed.

Any help greatly appreciated!

You could get the toad fitted for about Ł190 t hink thats what i payed when i had the cossie
They were off ebay , cant think of the name now , but he was a great bloke , stripped out about 3 or 4 old alarm systems that had been on the car in the past and been cut and shoved under the dash and surrounding places before he started to fit the new one.

sac-distribution , just had a look .

Id go for a Toad ai606 as above, its a great alarm, NEVER EVER false alarmed even if its gale force winds outside or pissing down with rain driving through floods etc, its never failed.
Ive had a different one on two different cars and my currant Honda, they have been spot on and not needed any maintenance at all

Best of all its alot cheaper than that clifford your looking at.

As standard the ai606 just has remote locking and panic alarm etc, but you can have anything added that you want like remote boot release, remote start etc etc

Bog standard alarm cost about Ł110-120 last time i checked, so you could probably have some toys added to it and still be cheaper than the clifford

I have on my Ai606:

-Glass break sensor
-2 stage body/wheel impact sensor
-Dual zone proximity sensor
-Ultrasonics
-Car unlocked or central locking deactivated (car unlocked) without anything other than the fob alarm goes off.
-Toad immobilizer
-Remote start
-Pager

Can have full closure (3dr or 5dr) if you like. But you can properly spec it up if you wanted

That's pretty much what I'm after! Can I ask how much it cost and where you got it done?

Ohh and something else its got sensors inside the car to detect motion, not sure of the technical name for that

Ultrasonics are what detect motion inside the car. It's got all the usual rearm features and all that but mine doesn't rearm goes into valet mdoe so immobilzer just kicks back in and all sensors are off. That feature or auto rearm is a cunt especially if you've left your keys in it!

Jay, I got it done by a guy called Dennis can't remember price was something like Ł380-Ł400 supplied and fitted with all the extras. His number 07980221525. He does Clifford too. I've recommended him to a few people and they have had Cliffords off him and have been no bother at all. Just goes to show he does a proper job so I wouldn't hesitate having a Clifford off him in the future.

No, it only rearms by itself if you dis-arm it and leave it without opening any doors.
If i was to open a door and close it and walk away it wont rearm.

Ahh cool mate cheers for clearing that up as I know some alarm systems arm themselves with your keys in it!

I've found some confusion regarding remote start, where some people say that the cat 1 status you get is void if you fit it? I don't see why that would be the case?

Because it bypasses the immobilizer because it needs to see the immobilizer code before it can start the engine . It is still safe as fuck with it though.

I think it was Ł110-120 just for the alarm mate, if it was fitted aswell theres a good chance the alarm was sold by Del boy and Rodney

Just search for alarm fitters in your area on google or even on Toads site maybe they do fittings over the uk?

opened a big can of worms on the whole alarm debate here tbh mate!

the alarm is only every as good as the fitter, i had a toad when i first got my Rs turbo and it was awful it just didnt work properly at all, when we stripped it out it was a right bodge job. i had my mate fit my clifford mk2 650 with window closure, intellistart, anti hijacking, prox sensor, full works basically and i never had a problem with it at all, i even took it off my escort and i refitted it to my Focus Rs and its still working fine!

you just need to find someone in your area thats recomended and has been used before by friends for example!

anyone can fit an alarm if theyve got a good grasp of electrics but unless your a registered alarm fitter dont think it will be recognised by you insurance company!
