Default 10psi too low for my setup?

hi all, my car was set up last month and boosts up to 10psi. its running a chip, stage 3head, on a 2litre zetec bottom end, decent turbo and zorst. it reaches 10psi very quick and then just feels flat, what would you guys suggest psi wise to be 'realistic' for this kind of set up? Is 10psi way to low? cheers

my zvh is running 21psi at the moment and is seemingly ok.
although it's way too much power to use on a daily car.
only turn the boost up if the fuelling and timing is right, otherwise it could be short lived.

10 does seem a bit low check with grove as there may be a problem. but i think a bar would be more suitable

He had it set up, they did the checks and put it to 10psi, the question wasn't whether to turn the boost up but whether or not they set it too low. HTH

I reckon at least a bar boost on that spec...

well previously it was running rather high boost which: (1) i found to be pointless as it felt stupidly quick for a daily and (2) felt it was rather risky incase it melted. i've not yet had a chance to get back to grove and i personally wouldn't adjust it myself no point in taking the risk. the trouble is with road being greasy/icey at times makes it difficult to go on a 'proper' run for a sound setup/test.

You may find they aired on the side of caution and set it up safe so it wouldn't go bang and you then return complaining your car broke (not suggesting you would of course). 10psi would seem on the low side to me but then what is teh spec of the bottom end as you've only explained what's on top of it. If the compression hasn't been lowered adequetly then 10psi might well be the safe limit.

yes that is true, i did consider that they may have left it on 10 to be cautious, it is running calibra pistons which i know is not the best way, i'll have a chat with them to see what they say

ahmed bajoo is one if not the best mappers in the country and anyone who tells you different is talking out of there arse , this bloke is ex borham trained and has mapped more cars than most of us have had hot dinners , still gets called away to map wrc cars etc hes basically the dogs bollocks. your in the best hands mate thats for sure . is the car in a running in peroid of 1000 miles? , what size injectors , pumps , pressure reg , valve springs , as all these will control what a safe boost level is and if there is any probs then it would make sense to keep it low. i would personally say around 18/20 psi would be a good solid boost level

cheers paul

talk about bum lick lol,
ive bin there and yeh he knows his stuff but if theres an air leak or a week actuator, or even if he thinks anything higher would be too much for the engine he aint going to wack it up, cos it would be down to them to fix it afterwould

Hi mate, the engine is mine not one they did,

Been on a few runs this week and realised that I should really be concentrating on the handling side of things rather than upping anything just yet! It's a nightmare and tramlines all over the road.

with regards to the turbo, is there any way of identifying what stage it is as it was brought with the car so i'm alittle unsure . Can take a pict if it helps at all? I know its strapped onto a cossie housing with a lamda plug. I'll try and get a pict of it.

Cheers

the tyres are 205 which don't help at all, i suspect the ball joints are knackered along with a few of the bushes, will be jacking up the front end and will attempt to replace the bits. Deffo the next move on the car i think, a torquey car with shite handling is only asking for trouble.
