Hi all,
another post
The avo coil overs i have fitted are a bit harsh, was wondering if any one could recommend a good spring rate for fast road usage....
Also the rear has adjustable shocks but standard type springs, the car is too low, is there a good -20mm or something spring out there somewhere?
Lastly, i made a post a while ago regards to getting the coilovers rebuilt, do GAZ do this now and has any one had this done?
Cheers again

i had my avo's done by avo about 6 months ago and the rear springs i run are from rally design and are 350lbs on a 20mm drop and lokks and feels ok, the front springs i got second hand but are not harsh seems very similar to standard rate
I run 350/450 for mine which is a track car so way too harsh for you....but i'd go for perhaps 180 pound springs for fast road use, iirc the guy from gaz told me that's what they come with as standard. If you phone gaz and speak to David Lyons he was pretty helpful reagrding spring rates when i bought my coilovers and seemed to know what was what. I also bought a set off 225's for the rear but haven't used them yet so can't comment, but he did say the springs i asked for would be very harsh on the road (which they are really lol). Ideally you'd get coilovers for the rear too so you could spec the spring rates on the back too and give it the best chance of being a nice road car. I ran cobra -30mm sorings before and they were really nice on the road, whatever you get for the back try and find out what poundage they are so you can spec the fronts accordingly. Bit of a ramble i know but hopefully some of it may help
Was a while back but i think the 2 spare rear springs i've got were no more than 40 quid, less i think! As long as you know the length and spring diameter you don't have to buy them from Avo neccesarily.
think it worked out 45 a corner and if you look up rally design you can order your fronts and backs to your spec as they do 300/350/380 lb spring rate in std/-1/-2 inch ride height as i said i'm on 350lb at -1 inch but you could have 380 -1 if you wanted to make car a bit firmer it's a bit of trial and error they are £16.90 a spring, front coil springs are around £15 a piece and you want around 180/200 as a starting point for a road car and see how you like that shame your not closer as you could take mine out and see how it feels which is supprisingly good and only just over standard feel saying that it'll be t central day if your still not sorted by then your free to go out in it for a trial

Any ideas on the diameter and length i need for the front coil overs lads? i want to get these ordered this eve, The backs are -1 inch so i guess i need a suitable length front spring?!?! I know they adjust just don't know if they have to be with in range or something.
Cheers

HAHAHA indeed i do, i was just being lazy and wanted to order them before i removed them from the car,
The diameter isn't really this issue, is it measured OD or ID? However the length im not sure about, if i only want to drop the car by an inch what length spring would people recommend?
And now for the probably REALLY stupid question. I have never fitter nor removed coil overs, im about to remove mine in 10mins or so, are the springs located at the top ie)are they going to explode when i undo them top nut? Stupid i know but i don't have any spring compressors small enough for them. I assume they are located as per standard ford shock/springs but though i would check lol
Cheers all

Rob,
You need to measure the Internal diameter of the spring! The springs won't explode out the top mate lol, coilovers are slightly different in design whereby you just looosen off the collars which will remove any tension (preload) in the springs if there is any.
