this is the first time ive ever had this big a wheel / tyre on a car, its excellent on the odd good roads we do have in this country

but the rough old roads seems a bit of a fight tramlines worse than any other car ive had.

i have done the suspension work that needed repairing and had 4 wheel alignment done.

is it just something ive got to live with with this size of tyre ?

 

yep the lower the profile the worse it gets in my experience i'v gone from 205/40/17 to 215/45/17 and that slightly higher profile has made it feel alot better on the shite roads but the low profile is sharper and has a better feel imho, so catch 22 which ever way you go i guess it's finding a happy medium.

 

i never thought about the height ive had 40 profile and they were good. dont get me wrong the 35 are awesome until the roads get rough then its a bit of white knuckle rider
il have to live with it as tyres are almost brand new and id guess new rubber all round would be at least Ł500 for decent tyres

 

i wouldn't dismiss the width as a slight cause but the low profile struggles to soak up the lumps and bumps witch will pull the steering, try having a blown damper and also low profile tyres thats when it becomes "fun" , but yea i'd just live with it for now till you'v used up the tread.

The one I used in Time Attack had 285/30/18" 888s and that wasn't too bad for tramlining on the road, it was terrible at everything else on the road though Awful car for road use! Awesome on track though Skylines rule

 

I had mahooosive wheels/tyres on my Lexus and it drove like a pig compared to the standard 17's. I put up with it purely because it looked awesome though. When i put the standard wheels back on, i realised how bad it was with the big beasts on. Ill never have ridiculously sized wheels/tyres again.

 

Funny you should say that lol, I put escort cosworth wheels on my sapphire with 215/40/16"s on the front and 225/40/16"s on the rear and I absolutely hated the way it drove. I did 10 miles on those wheels and I was fed up with the way it felt and the way the tyres were catching on the front arches so I went back to the standard wheels and never regretted it. It's what has always put me off putting decent wheels on my sapphire

 

May be worth messing about with pressures and settings , im running a good bit wider and lower profile tyres and with a recent alignment tramlining isnt too bad.

I had 275's all round on my Skyline at one point and it was HORRENDOUS for tramlining!!!!!

followed the road sooooooooooo badly, pulled left then right etc etc...

Try going down to a 235 or 245 front and get a decent geo set up done.

Will totally transform the way the car drives.

 

the problem is from the looks of the tyres there already beading in at outer edges i think there as narrow as the rims will take

they look awesome but the drive has to come first so if needs be guess il be selling them and buying sensible 17"s.

 

Just stick with it, mechanical grip ftw!
