Got our standard 3door back from the garage where it has had a service etc, its totally standard engine wise and i want more power. its standard apart from slightly bigger brakes and some fancey hoses to tart up the engine bay,
I want around 400BHP
BIG brake set up
but i want the car to look as standard as possible no huge intercooler on display as i like it looking stock
I owned a tuned escos before but bought it like that.
Who are the GOOD tuners in the cosworth world?
not looking for XXXXXXX is shit, im looking for "i used xxxx and where good" and maybe some detail of what they done.

Once you have a list of people on here that gets recommended, I would phone them up, speak to them personally and get a feel of who will offer you what you want in both service and cost
I personally use Harvey at SCS (based in Peterborough) 01733 576 614, but there are some other good people getting mentioned as well. However, be aware that costs can escalate and you need to advise your budget and tell people that you want everything to be included in your budget that will be required to run the car, as some may quote for a bare engine and sound cheap (but when you add the turbo, management, loom, intercooler, clutch and brakes, will be more expensive) and some may quote for everything and appear more expensive from the outset. So always make sure your quotes are like for like by getting a list of what it does and doesn't include.
As has been said, 400bhp really does warrant an RS500 intercooler (the standard 2wd one is spent at stage 1
). Obviously if it was painted black, people wouldn't be any the wiser unless they were Cosworth people, as they would just assume it was the radiator However, to do it properly and to uprate all the other parts accordingly (brakes, suspension, clutch etc), it WILL cost THOUSANDS to do in one go!
Personally, I would be inclined to start with a swap to a 4x4 intercooler and stage 1 chip to see if the quest for 400bhp is for you
. I say this, because 400bhp on standard size wheels / tyres is pretty fucking suicidal
.

I have only ever been told be one tuner that they would not go above stage 3 on a 205 block!and that was grove garage, although i have been told that the 3 door 205blocks/heads are shit!where as the later 2wd sapp 205 blocks/heads are of much better quality!
400bhp sounds a nice figure but in reality 330ish is enough for a 3door.With 400bhp it wont be as nice to drive and it will go wrong and cost you big time at some point because it is 20yr old metal with 100% more power on it.With a 3door it needs to be as original as possible.
We have one at 300bhp and is just perfect to drive compared to my 400bhp saff.

I know lots of people who have had 205 blocks well past 400bhp without a problem so I disagree with Mike on that one.
I agree with him and others though saying that a low 300s power figure or similar would be a good first step.

It's "neck of the woods" chip.
I would go to stage 1 first, to see if you like it, and it's a lot cheaper into the bargain.
I'm not being funny but I can't remember tha last time someone looked at my car and said or knew you have a 500 cooler, as said done in black like Airtec now do, you're not going to stand out a mile anyway.
205 blocks are wobbly but some with high mileage at way over 400bhp without incident, a lot of the probs occurr when pillocks rebore without a deck plate, my place won't do even a std pinto sierra engine without using one.
Most people have turned out shit at some time, including the names above I'm sure, it's how they deal with it that is more important.

400bhp really needs a 200 block IMO and I personally wouldn't feel comfortable taking it anywhere who said differently, as the 205 block tends to crack with the boost pressures needed to achieve a genuine 400bhp.
