Default Treatment for Arc-Eye?

Anyone know any quick treatment for Arc-Eye?

Did a spot of welding yesterday morning and went to work with no problem at 12. About 4ish last night my left eye started to feel irritated and sore. At about 6ish it was getting a bit unbearable and felt like someone was rubbing grit in it

Got home from work at about 9ish and spent 30 mins swilling my eye with luke warm water - this soothed it greatly Then I went to bed - keeping my mincers shut proved to be even more soothing and pain free

Woke up this morning with loads of eye goo in my left eye and it feels a little bit irritated still, no bloodshot or anything untowards and my vision is perfect still.

So, whats a good remedy for this bar keeping the eye closed - eye drops?

And before anyone says it, I was wearing a mask bla bla bla, but managed to get an eye full of welding light when tacking a couple of times

Interestingly tho, nothing wrong with my right eye - bizzare

You can get artificial tears or eye lubricants over the counter at the pharmacy. They may also recommend using something like Ibuprofen to relieve the pain. If you get any blurring of vision or worsening of pain you should visit a Optician and have your cornea checked.

Topical anesthetics are not available under over the counter as they can affect and slow corneal wound healing. They will only be used by either an optician or ophthalmologist.

Lie on your back with a damp cloth over your eye. Managed to get it once when i was at uni, fucking killed. No real cure i dont think, just takes time to sort itself.

Guess I'm lucky really in the fact that its the first time I have had it - I blame it on tack welding and turning my head to the right so my left eye gets the flash

The pain has subsided substantially overnight and its just mild irritation now with no problem when in bright light or looking at the telly etc etc - Was a bit worried (read shit my self) when I couldn't open my eye this morning as it was sealed shut with eye-goo

can't help with a remedy, but prevention is better than cure so get yourself a decent lcd auto mask as you can see through it to tack. they're not expensive anymore like when i first got mine and they were about Ł400

More importantly, prevention is better than cure, ie get a auto dimming mask, be odd to start with as you keep shutting your eyes, but work perfect, get one with adjustable shade.
Never really done anything when I have had it, despite not getting it from myself, it's hard to stop flashes when there are loads of people al welding on same bit of metal, structure etc, so auto dimming mask and decent hat, as pissed off with getting burnt on my bald spot.

Hmmm Autodim - sounds like a plan - Cheers

Chemist offered some moisturising antibacterial drops - they seem to of done the trick as my eye no longer feels irritated

Been there done that and learn't years ago, ive used an auto mask for 10 years now in both mig and tig and never had a flash since, though i do even still tack without the mask on, just that im really good at closing my eyes, a good few seconds before press the trigger !

it will wear off in time.

i have had a couple of flashes now, last time went to the infirmary at 2 in the morning, they looked in my eyes to make sure there was no shite in there and dropped some iodene in to check for scratches, all clear.then they cleaned the iodene out and put the anesthestic drops in. numbs the eyes for around 24hrs, so a patch on each eye to keep bits of crap from getting in. i looked like a panda for a while. but the nurse gave me a couple of sachets of the anesthetic drops so if it happened again i could just pop the drops in myself with out trailing to the infirmary at silly o'clock in the morning.

as everyone else says prevention is better than cure and get the best automask you can afford, after all we only have one set of peepers
