Jim Galbally HELP - Exchange
Got a major problem with Exchange in that some mail forwarding from our users accounts to an alias is not working, I'm just getting 5.4.6 bounce messages all the time, but external mail in appears to be working fine.

As is typical of working in Qatar, it was something totally unrelated that was causing the issue. Invalid PDC Emulator specified and no WINS server defined. How the fook it ever worked is beyond me!!!

by the way the bit i didnt explain which is maybe why it wasnt obvious to google it, is that the important bit of the message was the bit that said 5.4.6
smtp error messages are in this format and each is unique, google these NDRs and youll find out what the problem is. the ones that start with 5.x.x are the "it's broken" ones... lol

Nope, would you believe 2003 which they upgraded from 5.5. Like I said, this is a total mess which is why we've just told them to sod off when they wanted to upgrade to 2007. We'll build a brand new cluster and migrate the mailboxes properly.
Error codes starting with 5 are permanent errors which won't resolve without investigation. 4 code errors are "it may possibly resolve itself" errors. Trust me, I spent a LOOOOOOONG time on Google trying to fix this. Just glad it is though as it stops about 9 service calls being peppered to me.
