Default My Car Tried To Kill Me

After a month of sweat and blood going into getting my car running (xr2 rs turbo) i finally got tax today and was having a spin about. Had a slight rattle coming from the exhaust so pulled over at home to check it out. Jacked up the car at the back and spotted a mount not connected. jacked it up a bit higher and crawled under to repair it......was almost there and yep you guessed it! Car rolled and i was crushed! I managed to let out a couple of cries for help before i had no breath left, luckily a young polish lad heard me and ran for his dad who came over and lifted the car enough so i could breath. Few more peole came over and they managed to lift it enough to get me free. I have been very lucky and got away with some bruises and scrapes and a sore chest but at least im alive. I know i was stupid for working alone and not using stands but i can assure you all i have learned my lesson.

Axle stands. There so you don't die...

Glad you escaped with your head intact. Least you'll know for next time

it happened to me a few years back as well. i had pebbles imprinted in my face for days afterwards. i always put the wheel under the car after removing it, that stopped my head from being crushed that day.

I actually have 4 very good stands but there up at my garage which is couple of miles from my house, they are now in the boot! Ive been round to thank the polish guy today, gave him a bottle of wine and some sweets for his kids as they got quite a scare too! He was very modest about it but i owe him my life!

I've heard of using bricks to support a car. Jack one side up and build up a brick tower to hold it along the chassis rail.

That was a lucky escape.

I got trapped between a car and a wall a few years ago when a trolley jack fell over as the car rolled. It was my own fault though, the front wheels were up on ramps and as it was a front wheel drive car I put it in gear to make sure it didn't roll backwards only I'd forgotten that I'd removed the cylinder head Luckily I managed to squeeze out because I was there on my own and my phones were at the opposite end of the garage. I won't be doing that again.

did this yesterday, the 205 was pretty much a bare shell at the front end yesterday morning, had a scaff plank and a 3tn jack under the front floorpans, lay underneath the car on my side to lower it down slightly to make it easier to drop the engine back in, twisted the handle on the jack and it dropped all the way, entire front end of the car sat on my shoulders then i had to try and jack the damn car back off myself with about 2% movement of my arms
shoulders are aching a bit now
