Default Correct tyres on alloy wheels on Sapphire cosworth.

I purchased a sapphire cosworth and it has standard 16 inch escort cosworth alloys on car now. Tyres on car now are 205x50x16. Previous owner changed springs & shocks because tyres were rubbing arches. Car is sitting too high now.

I am fitting back standard shocks & springs on car and i require to fit standard 16 inch escort cosworth alloys. If i fit same tyres 205x50x16 back will i still have same problem with rubbing arches?

I require to purchase new tyres. What size tyre can i fit without rubbing all four wheels arches. Can i fit 205x45x16? Are there any advantage in fitting a wider tyre? Whats the best brand of tyre to purchase for this car? I was going to purchase a Pirelli "P" type because theses have a wall that will protect the edge of alloy wheel when i hit a side of a footpath. I require a tyre for road use only and in wet weather as i live in the republic of ireland.

wider tyres = more grip.

iirc escort wheels catch a fair bit on lowered cars but on standard height i think there ok. not to sure about the tyre size tho

I have Escort Cossie wheels on my car and have never had any problems with the tyres rubbing, its has uprated suspension but has not been lowered at all, I have Goodyear eagle F1 215/40 R16 on there and they last a while.

Hope this helps you

they will look crap with anything bigger than 40 profile tyres on a sapphire. and they will prob catch if they have 45 profile or over on a tyre which is 205 in width or wider.

i would say go for either 205/40/16 or 215/40/16, but think it will still catch on the arch a bit over some humps and bumps unless theyve already been modified/cut away to prevent this happening

if youve never driven your sapphire on standard 15" wheels and tyres, i would say have a go and fit some to feel the difference of the drive, not saying change and keep them, but it may make you realise that the width (and dodgy tyre size option) on the escos wheels makes a bit of a lumpy ride, standard wheels and tyres are quite comfortable but... escos wheels DO look very cool

Is the offset on the original 15 inch lattice cosworth type wheels different than on the standard 16 inch escort cosworth alloys? If so, what is the disadvantages of using standard 16 inch escort cosworth alloys?

If i use 205/45/16 on the standard escort cosworths alloys, will this be the same as the rolling radius of the original lattice type cosworth wheels?

Closest to standard is 205/40/16 (5mm larger dia) and the 205/45/16 is about 10mm bigger in diameter... if my calculations are right!!!

I had 215/40/16s on my old escort cossie wheels. My car was lowered 30mm and the tyre on the o/s/f used to catch every now and then.

I got 215/40/17 on and I just can't seem to stop the catching. It's only 25mm lowered and arches rolled to the max, still catches though, drives me mad.
