Default Quick Question About Imports & Reg Numbers

Quick question...

I have a car, which is a Japanese import, built in 1993 and registered on an L-plate.

It was imported, and first registered in the UK in 2005. Is it at all possible to assign an 04-reg private plate I have to that car?

I've always assumed the answer would be no, but I'm hearing stories of someone who has effectively done just that

I believe that the registration number must be in accordance with the year it was manufactured, NOT the year it was registered in the UK. My DC5 was registered in the UK in August 2007 but was manufactured October 01, hence it being a 51 plate!

There's a circa 1995 Impreza (or was) on ebay on an 02 plate.. I've seen (in the metal) a gti-r on a T plate so yes it's possible.

I however would not want it as I think it looks wrong and dodgy.
