Default melted fuse ? help !

Hi all took my 3 door for a proper run today for the first time.
I noticed the temp gauge started to soar and thought it might be the fan connecting wires so sorted them just to be sure still no fans.
So i went to the fuse box and the fuse for the rad fan was just melted, no plastic left at all.
I noticed the other day that the wires running from the abs unit and the clutch cable ( all the wires from that area ) had got incredibly hot and melted the insulation on the wiring, probably cos i had not fitted the heat shield.
Anyway has anyone ever experienced the melting fuse or have any idea's why it might have happened, trying to get it finished for ford fair but it feel's like it's a never ending saga at the mo.
