Default Fax to and from the computer

Don't know if anyone has any experience of this, or any advice but I'm looking to do the following.

Two phone lines in the house. One used for main phone and broadband, and one is an office line with a fax attached.

Is there any way of running the main line which has a standard broadband router with the fax, so that the computer is able to recieve and send the faxes, meaning I can do away with the other line?

Computer is a reasonable spec unit with Vista basic. Don't want to pay for a fax to email conversaion service - just after something free, and easy to use.

Had a search on the net, but I'm not too techy, so can't work it out - talk of fax modems etc... this seemed the best place to ask. Is this possible?

Fax modem plugged into phone line.

I used to use software called WinFax Pro. Left it running to auto receive.

Worked a treat.

So you can have a fax modem on a phone line that is used as a normal phone line AND broadband carrier?

No reason why not, its still receiving a call but being picked up by a computer instead of a person.
