Default Wont start when hot

hi all.
I have a mfi series 2 escort. The car starts first time on the key when it is cold and runs great. after a drive and then i park it up and turn the ignition off the car wont start. I have found out that if you put your foot to the floor and then start it it will fire up with a slight hesitation. You have to catch it first time or else it wont start at all unless you bump it. The tps sensor is clicking so im asuming it is working. I have changed fuel pumps, metering units, fuel filter, coil, spark plugs and ht-leads. I did a compression test and i noticed that 3 cylinders were the same apart from 1 which was a 1 bar down. The tempreature is good and i have no cream in the water or oil so im ruling out head gasket.

any help would be great.

yes the car cranks over. 9/10 tries it will crank over and the odd one will be slow like the battery is not charged which i guess is the starter motor. it just turns over with no intention of firing up.

The starter motor should have a cover on it to protect it from the exhaust, but finding a s2 with one on is very rare.

You changed fuel pumps... are the valves on top of the fuel pumps ok? If not, the fuel will get back into the tank when the car is cut off and the fuel inside the lines get hot. It produces gas bubbles and the pump won't be able to provide enough pressure to open the injection valves.

The starter isnt the problem.

He has said the car cranks over, if the starter is to warm it just refuses to work meaning it wouldnt try to work.

Dont laugh as this is totally true.

When I first got my RST there were a few electrical gremlins. When I opened the door, the clock would go off, when you selected sidelights the main dipped beam would come on, and when you selected main beam, all would go off, including the dash lights, weird.

Before I diagnosed the problem, when the car was hot it would only start if one of the doors was open, this made the light on my immobiliser go green, really strange but it started first time.

The problem was a few random wires bridging fuses from other fuses in the fuse box. Ok doesn't sound like it would cause these problems but it did! Removed the wires, replaced the blown relays that these wires were trying to compensate for and it now starts first time every time even when hot, and with no doors open!

Check your wiring dude, do you have any other electrical gremlins?

My mates car used to be exactly like that. However it would do it whenever it felt like but mostly when hot and it was the starter motor. It would either fire right up or crank with no signs of firing by which then you'd have to bump it.

Was a FRST by the way.
