I know Rab but it calms down after a while. The first shop was a kick in the stones for me, all the cleaning stuff that I hadn't even thought about. I'm glad I bought my house when I did but I just really wish I'd bought one sooner when I originally planned to (19) and not fucked about with cars for all those years first.

Lost count how much I've spent on my place, but worth every penny and don't regret spending a penny of it.

spend the money wisely as you will regret spending money you don't need to
if its a new house and its wanting decorating, spend the money and do it propley the first time around
cealings first
then walls
then floor

dojj- my uncles a great plasterer so were ok there and get it for practically nothing, but finished our bedroom there, and study is 80% done, i done painting , skirting etc etc myself and looks great tbh so saved a bit, but getting in from work to work to 10 at night really gets you down lol

stoo- i regret not getting a place at 21 as i was going to and bought a cossie lol, why did i waste so much money on old fords that tbh i never really used that much, never have a old car again ever mate, but im on the ladder now and in the long run it will benifit me obviously as i think i done ok withprice/area etc, god in a 3 or 4 years itr will be even harder .

Well in the first three weeks of moving in I had to replace the boiler, 2 radiators AND replace the downstairs floorboards!! Which was nice.

*Melanie typing this obviously as Stoo's away out doing macho things and NOT talking about houses on the 'net*

when we first bought the house it was a shell
so we started to gut it
what we should have done was to knock the chimney out downstairs in the front room, that way we would have ditched the horrible sliding door arrangement in the upstairs room as well and freed up another 2 foot of space
but i decided that, as my brother and my dad weer at a loose end, they could do what they needed to do

how wrong was that assumption

first, my brother decideds to put several screws through the gas pipes, on christams eve, so you can imagine what the place was like with no heating (the pipes were 3/4 inch or soemthing rather than 22mm so that wasn't going to get fixed in a hurry)
then the boiler packed up
so we got it all sorted
then the bathroom floor starts to leak into the kitchen so, rather tha fix the floor he decided he was going to shell out on getting the whole bathroom sorted tiled and showered and everything
looks nice but it's a lot of money after you've just forked out for the boiler
then he decided that he needed to carpet the entire house so that was another £2500
and then he decided he would put up some wallpaper

twat

and then he decided he was going to paint the walls instead of stripping the paper back

even bigger twat

and i've recounted the tales of the £12k kitchen so i'm going to go to b&q or something and buy a tap and tops and job done

the one thing I am glad about the most with my house was the lack of needing to do anything to it! Didn't even need to decorate (whilst the colour scheme is fairly generic, it's all ok so no need to redo anything) - no need for new double glazing, no need for new flooring, no need for carpet's, etc - it was all ready done and ready to move in!

The only two things that need to be done are a crack in the plaster upstairs, and if I am being REALLY picky, a non-flat part of plaster in the living room - looks like a shelf was fitted at one point, and it's been removed, filled over and painted. But to be honest I am not fussed enough about either to bother sanding, filling and painting!

One half of me wishes I HAD had to do it all, as I could have run cables in the walls and under the flooring, but the other half thinks it's fucking ace I don't need to spend stupid ammounts of money doing it up Even the bathroom and kitchen are all done with no need to change anything - well except the toilet seat, which I did the day I moved in, but I think thats probably my OCD flaring up
