Default Diesel and petrol battery difference?????

Does anyone know what the fundamental difference in a diesel battery and a petrol battery
Why is it a petrol battery does not work on a diesel car and its not lack of cranking current

Im pretty sure there just a higher amperage battery, and can crank longer and still hold the same amount of amperage level. But, ive got a 8 month old 43 amp petrol battery on my Rover 2.0 litre Turbo Diesel. At the mo it fires every morning, but i know the battery will have a reduced life.

Generally due to the high compresion of a diesel it has a larger battery which allows a higher cranking current (check CCA rating). Their is no other difference, both are flooded lead acid or valve regulated sealed lead acid for racing.
