Steam cleaning a cosworth engine advice please??
My engine bay could do with a clean it`s not that bad but could do with a clean up around the lower half of engine bay.I been told not to put a jet wash any where near it a i would get loads of probs but don`t fancy clean it with a tooth brush
Yes or no advice please

Don't do it!!!!!!!!!
My best advice would be warm engine, lots of engine degreaser and a hosepipe!!!
Or even add the degreaser to a hose gun so it gets agitated when it hits the engine!
(Obviously make sure you rinse all degreaser off the paintwork as fast you you can afterwards)

hmm, tricky mate, id get it up on a ramp and get under neath, and use old rags and use petrol for cleaning it, dab it on the rag, dotn do anything daft, it will clean anything off the block etc, dont use on rubber hoses etc.

use a couple of small brushes and some cleaner . white spirit on the really tuff stuff. just make sure you wash any spirit off asap and give it all a good coat of wax or polish when youve finished ..

I steamed my old one twice (when I left the oil cap off it
)
piece of piss and never missed a beat either time! I even did the top end around the inlet manifold etc.
you're better off using a steam cleaner than a hose pipe as a steamer is just that - more steam than water (if its hot enough).
however I know of a few that have had big probs after doing this so who knows?
take it to a valeter, they're a bit more used to it! (but dont expect them to accept responsibility if it goes tits up!)

Last time I used a steam cleaner (allbeit an industrial sized bad boy) it had a shit load of pressure behind it (similar to recoil from a rifle), not the amount of pressure i'd want to be putting on electrical components under the bonnet anyway!!!
