Default Skiers - Nokia Sports Tracker

a cool bit of FREE software that logs GPS data on your Symbian OS Nokia (or other) phone

i installed it before my skiing holiday last week and recorded a few runs down the hill to get an idea of my peak speed. i was slightly disappointed that i only got 75 kmh (46 mph), but the pistes had not been prepared and had a good few inches of fresh snow that slows things down a bit. next year i will aim for at least 80 kmh (50 mph). that doesn't sound like much, but when you've got 2 planks of wood strapped to your feet flapping about it's fast enough

you can upload the data to the nokia sports tracker website for sharing and analysis. it shows you where you have been using google maps (and satellite images).

see this for an example

http://sportstracker.nokia.com/nts/w...x.do?id=107076

could also be used in car for recording lap times etc (did someone mention the 'ring?)

Now that is a handy tool to have.
We used to pull each other behind the jetskis at around 60mph on wakeboards. It then meant silly speeds on our snowboards was a canter. Will be interesting to measure accuratley the max speeds reached when snowboarding now, cheers for that.

Just like to say thanks for posting this. I work with CN3's and GPS Receivers all day but didnt realise this was available. I downloaded it for my 6120 Classic and paired it with the GPS to log my cycling to work. It is an awesome tool.

Good work

I've wanted to do the same thing for a while, and realised that my blackberry, paired with a good bluetooth receiver and a free program called bbtracker (http://www.bbtracker.org/) gives me all that functionality.
Can export to google earth too

I've only tested it on my way back from work and it seems to work just fine.

Should theoretically work with all Java-enabled smartphones so sounds like the same for non-symbian phones.

Hope it helps (it helped me considering I was going to spend money on a handheld GPS and realised I had all the bits already )

glad a few people have found it useful

i guess i could have made the title a bit more generic though, as it can be used for other things apart from skiing (cycling as mentioned, jogging - and as i said in my first post - lap times in a car on a circuit )

One of my mates I showed the app to here has a similar one for car laps of the circuits here but also has managed to get TomTom onto his 6120 Classic which is awesome! That is my next task but will need a bigger Micro SD card for my US trip as the maps are about 700MB
