as some of you may know, iam building a mk4 escort with cosworth4x4 engine and running gear.the shell is nearly complete, and the body kit and paint is going on at the moment. the engine will be 500 ish bhp,but does anybody have any suggestions for uprating the gear box and diffs?ie what gearboxs will fit and take this sort of power?

Pete Doughty box a possible option, around £2200-2500 to convert a GOOD 4x4 box depending on options (some cogs straight or all + shaft upgrade).

Diff's - speak to Bernie (Gearboxman) ?

OOPS, forgot about that option - Martin's details are on www.reyland.co.uk, I think Wes on here has one of his setups on his 500+ Sapph'

Ive no idea really mate being an RST man myself rather than a cossie man!.

Ive heard romours around the £6k mark for the conversion, best speak to Martin or Sean @ Zoo motorsport....active centre diff sounds very appealing!!! Also from what I understand they put up with high power very nicely

You still need to get uprated front and rear diffs. Front first, Thickwalled Casing and an ATB will do for 500bhp. Here is mine

If you are on a budget and are not going to be launching the life out of the car, then just get a standard 4wd rear diff or 2wd rear diff. Will be upto the job

Are you starting completely from scratch or do you have any parts? if its from scratch and you want a genuine and reliable 500bhp then 10k might not be enough for new engine, Turbo, wiring, ancillaries, ECU, intercooler, Diffs, box, etc etc etc...

I'll call Martin and just explain what you want and EXACTLY how much you have to spend... pls call ONLY if you are serious and don't just thinking about doing this though.

hi porkie.i didnt get a chance to call martin today,as the wifes shopping trip took priority but i have got to keep in her good books, its a long story on the history of this car ,nearly 3 years lol,but yes i do have a complete cos 4x4 93 model running gear, everything apart from the shell.it was planned for t34 stage 3/4 conversion.but as you may have heard i had some slight luck on the lottery. total iam thinking of spending is 20k,but the car will be used every day, plus maybe 4x a year at the pod,and 4 track days a year.so i dont want straight cut gears, hence my interest in the skyline box.
