HAVIN TROULBLE WITH AVO! PLEASE READ
2wd Sapphire Cosworth
have bought some -25 lowering springs from woodford, Avo springs. It had -60 on b4. Had them fitted last week and the car is scrubbing on aarches worse than ever, and sits lower, I think they have sent another set of -60 not -25. So I emailed Avo and this is wat they sent bk.
many thanks for your e-mail
the spring kit that you should have is part number 30-025, please check that
you have been supplied with the correct part numbered kit
the kit 30-025 has been in production for over 15 years and we have not
experience any problems with this kit.
There are a number of issues on cosworths that can cause problems, front
spring pan hieghts, if your car has non std dampers, check spring pan height
to o/e units, on the rear unfortunately with age the rear arms bend which
cause a lower ride height, also check that the rubber that mounts around the
spring is in good condition.
If all this is correct, then i can only suggest that using 4x4 springs would
rise your car, there are no other alternative 2wd springs.
i hope this is of help to start with..
Well, I sent a This picture with the email I sent them.

Alan and Simon at woodford are tryin to help me, so no issues with them. The email was from AVO sales.
What you guys think?????????????

**EDIT** please see post below explaining how bad my memory is.. the pics below show 03-026 STD 2wd springs height.. **EDIT**
if it's any help, here's a couple of pics of how mine was with what should be the same AVO spring set as yours (also from Woodford)

Although the car is 4x4, these were 2wd springs. The wheels/tyres are also standard 15", so maybe that alters things compared to yours?

certainly "looks" more than -25mm. The definitive measurement is from the wheel centre to a reference point on the body, say wheel arch lip, and compare that to "standard" - that takes the effect of different wheels out of the equation.
What is Simon's take on this? Does he think it is wrong? He comes across these sort of issues all the time, I had the discussion with him when I bought mine with respect to how high or low it would end up with xyz spring kit fitted.
For me he referred to a poster of a Sapph he had on the wall and said "this AVO kit will make it look like that picture" and it pretty much did.

If you actually care how the car handles, please please put standard road height springs on.
You will not regret it.
I use the AVO 2WD Std height springs and that is low enough, and the improvement to handling over the lower springs was immeasurable.
I cannot explain why this is, but Rainbird can. I believe there is a thread on this, which may come up on a search.

I know someone on here who runs his Saph a little higher than standard and it works fantasticaly!
Right.. apologies for my memory..
I in fact had the 30-026 (2wd STD) kit on my Flint 4x4 above.
This is the same kit reference which is described as -25mm for 4x4. (I didn't want any more than -25mm on the 4x4, just to sit the higher std 4x4 back end down).
So in fact if you have a -25mm (30-025) kit fitted, then that could well be why it looks lower than mine.

Thanks 4 the Help.
Just so i understand, did the 4x4 sit 25mm higher than the 2wd. Standard?
So if u lowered a 4x4 by -25mm then it wud be standard ride hight on a 2wd. Is this correct. Need to no the Facts B4 i send a e-mail bk to Avo.
Simon Said that its way to Low. I sent him that picture. I will talk to him monday, maybe ask him about this poster on wall.
Yes the Car Is sat on 18s.

30-025 = 2wd -25mm
30-026 = 2wd STD AND 4x4 -25mm
30-029 = 4wd STD
4x4 as factory standard evidently sits 25mm higher than 2wd (rear certainly does - my original springs were a bit knackered so front sat a bit low anyway) so in my case Simon reccomended I use 30-026 kit which lowers 4x4 by 25mm to bring in line with STD 2WD (this same kit is listed for both applications) and the result is as you see in my pictures above.
But If your kit is supposed to be just 25mm lower than mine again, it still looks very low to me IMO.
It was a few years ago now, but the poster was on the wall just to the left of the entrance door - the blu-tac may have dried up by now and it's fallen down LOL

allready got konis on them, tryin to find out how mutch 25mm lowering springs on a 2wd lowers them, and if they lower them as mutch as watmy car is top picture as I think there the wrong springs as I wanted it to sit higher , without hittin arches etc.
You have some choices, depending on how high you want the car to sit
.
If you want it to sit 25mm higher, use 2wd springs ref: 30-026, this is the standard ride height springs for a 2wd.
If you want to raise the height by 50mm, use the standard ride height springs for a Sapphire 4x4 - ref: 30-029
All of the above is assuming that the springs supplied and currently fitted are in fact the 30-025 (-25mm 2wd items).
This is why you really need to fit matched springs and dampers, as AVO have pointed out, different dampers have different body lengths
