The old dear asked me to change the fan light in her bedroom for a normal light fitting, never had a problem before with wiring but this one was slightly different and rather then blow up her house I thought I'd ask you guys for a pointer

I removed the fan light. It was wired so you could turn the light on and off at the light switch but also you can turn the fan on or off from a pull cord on the fan whether it was switched on or not from the light switch

and was left with this



The black wire on the far right had a bit of red tape on it. So how do I wire up a simple light fitting to it please

3 is live BTW, not that it really matters...

 

swop the red tape for brown sleeving just to make a really good job of it

why don't you wait till the morning? when you can actually use the light from outside and not depend on your old dear holding a wobbly torch so you can see what you are doing

 

1,live loop 2,neutral 3,switch line as said above conect into 2 and 3

 

dont fukn touch it ur no a spark....ur doing me out of my new front pads...lol

 

So we're saying 1 is live, 2 is neutral, and 3 is switch live.
So why is 2 linked to 1?

Don't put any brown tape on as it is wired to a previous version of BS7671
