Default What is

Dead locking/double locking? My Escort has it but I don't actually know what it is

And also, am I right into thinking I can't get another key cut if I don't have a red key?

Thanks

Just like a house door lock, a dead lock is a physical locking device that's harder to unlock by a thief than a normal car lock rod system.

Something like this:

As for the key I'm not sure. On my vec the ignition/ door key activates the deadlocks. Put key in door and twist/turn once to lock the doors, twist it again and it operates the deadlocks.
