From the sounds of the description of your car looks like you have picked up a decent one and the condition looks good as well, I think it's worth doing it up like an rs turbo.

Bargain I'd leave it as it is and it's sure to become a classic It looks better with the original front indicators

You lot have made my decision harder, as much as i love my car, i would rather make it my own. But havent said that, theres not many original ones left know, so might be worth some money in the near future.

if i was you...id just clean it through out...

get some decent suspension and nice alloys....thats it so it doesnt spoil the original style.....

but keep the standard alloys and clean them up just incase you want to take it to a show or sell it in original state!

Im not particaly keen on the red stripes, but think theyll stay. Might go with 15" soft spokes and a 50mm drop. Ive got a 90 spec spoiler and a rs option front splitter supose i better not fit these

What do you guys reckon?!

If you do mod it,make sure it's all reversible,so you can easily return it to standard.
Looks nice and original, and a bargain at that price.
I would leave it looking standard, and bolt a 2.0 zetec in.

I've picked up a XR3i for a project - basically all I am doing is an RS Turbo replice - I cant afford real thing yet but can look like one!

However by the sounds of that car mate I would leave it absolutly standard and just keep it so clean and in a few years should be worth a bit as originals are getting rare!

Nice motor!

exactly how i bought mine ........ lol now look at it!

i would highly recomend lowering the suspension as the standard just feels so "wobbly" other than that sounds ideal also some nice small 15's on there wud do good im selling my 17's to buy some smaller wheels so its all good also any parts u need ive got them all same colour as yours to

also use turtle wax colour magic (black) to polish it brings the paint up soooo nice!

and keep the ambers!!

Thanks for all the postative comments, have decided to keep it original apart from wheels and suspension, forgot to mention previous owner fitted a full scorpion exhaust

I normaly use autoglym but might give turtle wax a whirl

I changed the indicators, because the car has quiet a cluttered look with the red strip, spots etc . . . and it one of the only things i could change without altering the look of the car too much, can allways change back, but i broke one

Right as im just gonna keep it as clean looking as i can, i will get some new style ford badges and headlight protectors. But how much drop shall i go and what wheels, there the 2 things im gonna change so have gotta get it right, want the wheels subtle and in keeping with the car, so what we reckon?!

thanks charlie

if that was mine, id get it as clean as possible.if i changed any parts ie. clear indicators, smoked back lights, clear side repeaters, alloys, recaros etc. i would keep all of the original bits in a safe place so it can be made back to original!!!! its a mint car mate, spot on!

drop the rear 60 front 40 on (wait for the laughter) apex shocks and springs (trust me!) these are rock solid shocks so u dont get any scrubbage from 17's and i even had a set of cossy wheels on that drop and never EVER scrubed!

if u can get some cossy wheels id highly recomend them if not then some nice 17's maybe some wolfrace voodoo's? i only say this as im trying to find some :'(

just keep it original mate, or things maybe you would like to do but can easily put back to standard..

but 60mm drop and black rs series 2s would look nice...

but for example the badges, stickers and number plates are worn/tatty get some new ones

just get it looking very clean....

good luck!

Looks lovely and a bargain too!

I'd leave the body 100% standard, drop it and fit lower profile tyres on the 14's..... would make it a real nippy screamer with the already short XR final drive!

No final drive is the diff gearing.
The XR3i has the same as the S1 which is shorter than the S2.......

XR3i is 4.27:1 versus the S2's 3.84:1, or thereabouts.
Makes it quite a revvy drive and means you get better acceleration for the power it produces.
