Default Dipstick question

firstly no members involved in the title lol, but i have a brand new dipstick tube and stick but how far do i insert it? Obviously too far will over fill my engine with oil.

also how much should i be looking at paying for a 2wd rear diff and shafts? Are the bolts available new?

Surely if it went "too far" into the block, you would UNDERFILL your engine?
