Metal bar from side to side on some floorpans- removable?
Ie the thin hollow box section from sill to tranny tunnel, usually around the front of the front seat. Made of about 1mm thick metal in an upside down U shape.
Not on all cars, but is on some.
Im presuming its a chassis strengthening part?
How bad is it, seriously, if i remove it? I know itd be fine if i remove it and re-weld it further forwards, but i cant weld and doubt i can get it done for 2weeks or so.
Is it ok to remove it? Just on one side. Just it makes fitting a floor mounted seat impossible with it there.
Its only my shitty S12, but its gonna get used hard and tho crash strength dont bother me, i dont want it to buckle like a banana with hard cornering.

Not to worry, sorted it now, can JUST get away with leaving it there now i cut away 2 other bits of metal. 1st/3rd/5th is a lil bit of a stretch, but wierdly enough steering wheel is in perfect place.
I need longer arms
Matt- Not really on the floorpan, but the side mounts are on a plate thats pretty much part of the floorpan, why?
Interior caught fire 3 times
And I accidently cut thru 11 wires in a clump
All minor stuff tho in the grand scheme of things

Cause the standard seat mounting points are strengthened to take the strain of an impact, the basic floor pan will rip if you come to a sudden stop from anything like a decent speed.
Which is a more than a possibilty considering what you're using the car for.
Thats why buckets are either bolted to the original mounting points (where possible) or have bars welded in between the tunnel and sill to bolt the mounts to.
