Default Cossie brakes on Mk6 Escort

Hi guys,

Before I throw a 2 lite in my mk6 estate beast, I am going to sort the brakes with some Cossie gear.

Could you please point me in the right direction as to what discs and calipers to use, as I am not sure whether to use the 4wd gear, or the 2WD 4 pots.

Your advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Escort Cosworth Brakes and disks

Just drill out your hubs from 10mm to 12mm and use 12mm escort cosworth bolts. and space the brake out a small bit

Easy job

Hi Olly,

Cheers for that dude.

I presume the carrier needs spacing to centralise it on the disc then dude?

Oh and the carrier has the thread, not the hub

Thanks matey

i had the cossie 4x4 callipers and discs on my mk6

all i needed to do was fit a washer between the carrier and the hub, and fit braided brake lines

the fuckers would lock up at 90 if needed lol, so they plenty good enough.

ps if you want some 2wd 4 pots i got a piar for sale, brand new seals etc like new

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the reply matey.

I fancy going the 4 pot route, as I will be using this as a tow machine for a track car I'm building.

Tried Pm ing you, but not working

Would 4 pots fit the hub, if so what discs, 4wd or 2wd ones?!

I saw your post, would you accept a reasonable offer for them?

Cheers

I am sure the 4 pots go straight on, ish.
You just need to tap the lug hole in the hub to take a bolt then maybe one or two washers under the caliper lug to align better in centre, and use 4wd discs, though it could be 2wd, so long since I done one.
4wd ones are for bicycles!!

ps drilled or groover work way better as do EBC REDSTUFF CERAMIC pads, like I use, work from cold perfectly, only ever faded once on road never on track day.

300mm means 16's tho, and I like my 15 " 7 spoke rims!!

Tabetha, I thought the caliperr body itself has the thread in it? I presume the holes all line up, but caliper just needs centring? I have some 2wd saff discs, if Dan@fastford comes back to me with a price on his four pots, I might just take them off him and see how I go

Thanks for all your advice guys

ah i remember now, i was quite pissed on friday

i think to fit the 4 pots you have to drill the hub and tap it for 12mm, not difficult

and maybe shave a bit off the calliper to clear the wheels

if using 2wd 4 pots, i wouold assume you need the 2wd discs aswell, i uses 4x4 callipers and discs, all i had to do was fit a washer between the hub and calliper.

if i had known about a week ago, i had a spare parif of mk6 hubs and driveshafts you could have had too, just incase it didnt work and you still had an un butchered set lol

well, dad lobbed em in the skip last week so no good now...

Hi Dan,

No worries mate.

Good piss up?

I bought a set of 4x4 calipers on Ebay for sensible money and some pads.

Defo 4x4 discs too then? I have some 2WD ones buried somewhere in the garage, was going to try them , but won't bother now!

How's my timing on you chucking the hubs, story of my life!!

Cheers

The Escort/Sierra 4x4 Cosworth caliper has more clamping force than the 2wd Cossie 4 pots tho

yes, 4x4 discs, callipers and pads

i also used esc cos braided brake lines, but needed a female/female brake connector (about £1 from motor factors) as the mk6 hard pipe has a male end (mk5 female)

use 1 or 2 10mm washers between hub/calliper and thats it

4x4 calipers are shite compared with 4 pots, which clamp over a larger supported area, maybe this is the reason why most performance cars have them ?, might also be why ford went racing with them and not the 4x4 ones, or std sierra ones, which frankly are more at home on a bicycle.

Hi all,

Attempted to fit my brakes today, sorted the lines, got some new 4x4 discs and some uprated pads and my wheels hit the caliper!! Bloody car!

What I was wondering was, is it ok to shave the caliper ever so slightly and use a 5mm spacer? I think it would prob need a 10mm one to absolutely guarantee it clears, but don't want to be fitting longer studs etc.... Got to keep my seven spokes.....

Never used spacers before, but thought they were a bit shanky?

Cheers
