Hi, i recently bought a 3door cosworth. which comes with a bit of work, For instance when i release the clutch, i hear often a rather disdurbing knocking sound from the rear/underneath of the car. So i went out checking, the rear beam is suspended in nylon bushes so that couldn't be it. However i find that there is a lot of play on the propshaft bush. Is that normal? Is that easy to replace? (or do i need to buy a whole new propshaft?) And do they wear out often?

does the prop shaft move from side too side a fair bit? if so it could be your diff, sounds a bit like theres maybe a tooth or two missing from the planet gears, this was a prob i had with mine.
Only an option not saying defo

Diff could have the lash a bit loose, but would not worry if it did, some do.
It is normal for there to be play in the doughnut thing that holds the centre bearing of the prop, mines moves queit a bit too.
If you had a tooth missing you would easily hear it, have you got soggy shocks ?
tabetha

thanks for the comments, had the shaft checked by the local ford dealer, they didn't see a problem with the rubber bush, looking further tough, found out that the left driveshaft has too much play on the outer cv joint
So i'll have a repair on that.
(Did order that rubber bush in advance, so i'll be replacing that anyway, doesn't cost much) Being busy at the rear, solid alu beam mounts along with a poly diff hanger will be in place by the end of the week
