Headgasket, skimming, compression etc.....
as above really, I may need to change my head gasket soon as I suspect its gone
Obviousley I will have to get the head skimmed but this will raise compression wont it
I dont really understand all the 'techy' stuff so what options have I got, ie. a thicker copper headgasket etc..... It runs 22psi and I believe the pistons in there at the moment are 0.5 oversize.
Also, can you just rasie / lower the compression and keep all the internals that are in there such as the pistons etc.. and what 'other' things should be replaced / altered etc.. ?
I take it the car will need setting up again after the work
any advice is very welcome, car is a s2 erst

yeah, ferriday do them as well.
Need to know about compression etc.. really, ie. can I just whack a thicker headgasket in to lower the compresion, what other stuff will need to be doen etc... all in the first post really.
cheers, Duncan

As regards to compression yes the skimming of the head WILL effect the the C/R of the engine.. the thickness of the skim will determine how much by.
You can just use a thicker Head gasket BUT the cometic ones are quite expensive!
a very slight skim of the head wont make too much difference to the CR and nothing internal will have to change..
the only difference that will be have to be made will be to your timing and possibly ignition map

................so, if I was to get a thicker copper headgasket made up by ferriday this would lower the compression, correct ? If I was to do this would I have to change or do anything to the internals of the engine ?..................is it really that easy to lower the compression Also what benefits does a lower compression engine give ?

well its running about 250bhp at the fly at the moment, it was 263bhp but I lowered the boost by about 2psi !!
So can I just put in a thicker head gasket to lower the compression
obviousley it will need setting up after the work but will anything else need to be done ? can I keep the same pistons etc ?
cheers, Duncsn
