Default Test drive to sell car LOL

hehe so whats the best approach to this then?

Last night I had a guy over to see the westie - I had washed it a month before - like mega style so never used it since until I got a viewer. When it came to the test drive I had decided it was more about my enjoyment than showing him the car so kind of let it rip LOL

Cold tyres on westies result in only one thing - 1st corner was a huge slide....which I enjoyed Then belting down the straight - Looked over to the guy and it was apparent he wasnt breathing right LOL (happened to a few mates that aint used to the turbublance in the wee machine ) So backed a little till the tyres were worm then went proper for it.

After hitting 7k in 5th I let it coast down and turned to say - Pretty civillized...... he commented on the fact I was fooking crazy which I obviously took as a compliment LOL

Said ok - now you can drive it back - went to do a turn in the road - just started my usual burnout 180 when it hit me that maybe he never wanted to see this so quickly clutched it and did a 3 point turn(1st time ever for the little car ) He commented - "nearly had it" as he must have realised what I was going to do.
This is the bit that got me LOL How dare he question my donut ability - anyone that has been in the car will know its circle drawing ability LOL I was so so so close to giving him the biggest demo of his life LOL - what would you have done? Its still bugging me today LOL

Must say he drove the car back with top respect and seemed to be smiling ear to ear so hope to hear back from him LOL...maybe

So on a test drive - what you supposed to do cos I aint used to selling cars

Martin

Personally I think you have to demonstrate the cars ability but without scaring the poor guy so much that he changes his mind and doesnt buy it!!

I also think its the sellers job to show how quick it is but if the buyer test drives it he/she should drive it carefully and sensibly just to see if it drives ok. Once they've paid up they can then drive it how they like. I dont know where you'd stand if someone test drove it and stacked it and weren't insured!!

i think a burnout over is a bit OTT on a test drive. if it was a car i was looking at, i'd probably walk away tbh - it kills that one careful owner image we all hope for when viewing a car. he was probably expecting you to be a rich poof that never floored it (like alot of kitcar owners)

boot it yes, thrash it no.

LOL Right so its deffo in favour of thrash, cane but no low spedd molten rubber episodes LOL

Thing is - my car is built for it and is in awesome nick - this was very obvious to the guy - I just wanted to point out it was Very engineered to do the job

Anyway - I want someone that is going to use it to buy it - almost as important as the money

i would drive it stedily for a while and they comment on what the car is capable of, and then progressively show him, not hoon it round like a loon!

that way he gets the impression that it is very well lokked after as tyou have let everything warm up to corect levels etc and also that you can drive it sensibly etc! but it also gives him the sense of what the car can do and the power behind it!

but burnouts and donuts would be a big big no no! would you really want a car that you thought had had that done to it all the time! i know i would definatly walk away!

GOOD EXAMPLE - went to see a calibra with a mate and the bloke commwented on how he never drives the car as it was his wifes and then proceededs to cain it along a very windy road! then swaps over with my mate for him to test drive it and he was telling in to leave it in third etc and when to brwak for corners and then having a go at how he breaked so much for a really really tignt and blind corner that was over 90 deg followed by the same but the other way! not the way you sell a car really is it! so we left that!

Hey wait a min - I ALWAYS let the car warm right up with a run - hence suprised the tyres were not warm on the first bend i opened it up - car had been running 10 mins odd before leaving too as i let him see a cold start etc - Remember I do own a cossie as well so know about warming up/cooling down

Until I caned it we had been tootling around at 1500rpm etc as I was showing how good the manners were on the throttle bodies, pick up etc.

It is a car for one purpose - it aint a calibra or anything like a tintop.

He's lucky it never had the A048rs on - Everything would have been faster LOL

OK so next time resist the 180 in the road trick sooner lol

CALM DOWN! wasnt saying you didnt mate!

was saying for everyones benifits! i know how i would like to think the car had been owned and driven before i brougt it! im all for a bit of enthuiastic driving, but there is a fine line between that and thrashed! and things like letting it warm up etc show it aint been thrashed!

in honesty I would cane my esc cos like that, but then it probs couldnt take it, a westie can take it i feel, although I would have missed out the donuts myself haha

i think as the guys say a gentle warm up, then some progressive but controlled driving without going to near the rev limit

should get you a sale
