Default 4x4 intercooler questions....

first i want to say a hello from lovely vienna

i drive a saph 4x4 with a SUHE 293 kit (green injectors, superchip, actuator, original exhaust without kat's ), original T3 turbo and intercooler, boost is set to 1,3 -1,5 bar.

on very hot days (above 25°C) and driving (or almost standing) in city, sometimes it misfires, depends on how old the sparks are...

to keep the intake air colder, i'm thinking about some uprades:

1) change to the watercooled escort intercooler. is this worth it?

2) change to the watercooled escort intercooler with a separate cooling system.

3) change to a "RS 500" intercooler. i have seen, they are available in several depth's. my cossie has air-condition, so i think its a problem to fit both, the rs500 intercooler and the air-condition radiator . i think there is not enough space.

is it a problem to fot the escort cooler to the sierra, do i have to cut someting away on the front panel?

what do you think is the best upgrade, and what are the advantages and disadvantages of the three possibilities?

kind regard
thomas

HI!

I would not fit the watercooled intercooler from the escort. At low
speed you will heat the air up with the 90°C hot water from the
engine cooling circle.

To fit the escort intercooler with a seperate cooling circle will be
much better but also quite expensive if you don´t play Mc Gyver and
build it by yourself (radiator from an motorcycle, electronic water pump
from Audi or VW,..).

Think about to fit an intercooler from the Golf 5 TDI. It has more or
less the same dimensions as the RS500 cooler but is just 3cm in depht.

regards
Mathias
