Default s2 rs turbo not charging and starting?

my bros rs turbo is not starting for some reason. it has a brand new alternator on it and a new battery from halfords fitted aswell.

but yet when you go to start the car it turns over very slowly and then the starter motor gets abit jammed and stuck and the engine is like stuck as if its got no power to turn over the engine.

However everytime it does this whilst we've tried to get it running right in the drive we can jump start it from another car and it starts up instantly.

what seems to be the problem with the car?

any ideas?

when its running it was charging at 12.7 which does seem quite low. We still have the reciept for the battery and its going to be taken back and exchanged tomorrow for a new one as this one we bought on december 15th 06, and a week before this the alternator was fitted aswell.

cheers in advance

what are the main earths to check on it?

the battery light works all correctly so the alternator is fine.

what would be the most commonist earth to make it have this problem of starting? does it mean any and every earth on the car.

check the ones that go to the gearbox also check the voltage across the battery and then down the live cable to the starter motor to c how much the voltage changes if it does change at all as these wires corrode with age

gonna try what gup says check the voltage down the earth cable to see what readings i get from it as i go down the cable.

or i might put a black jump start lead as an earth from the battery to the gearbox bolting and start it and run and see if it charges any better.

does that make any sense?

cheers

Starter could be tired..........when the starter stalls it creates a dead short across the battery, using jump leads will supply a lot of extra cranking amps.

What are the warning lights on the dash like when you crank over off the battery alone? Do they go dim/go out?

as it turns over the lights go dim when the battery strains to turn the starter and fire the engine, then u release the key and it clicks as the starter dis-engages

cheers
