linking a laptop to a desktop?

linking a laptop to a desktop?
is it possible to do this with a usb a male to a usb a male cable. only want to do this for transfering music & pictures. if not what cable would i need

Ethernet patch cable m8, providing both computers have network cards / ports in them.
