You only have to see,if you took all your blinkers off, that the cossie wasnt exactly "whooping the subaru" it was only staying in front.
If you read the bhp of each car you would also see they are the same, fine, but ones a 4wd and one 2wd so the transmission losses for the scoob would be close to 20%+.

Thats why it couldnt get by,now if each had the same wheel bhp i bet that would be a little different....do you think?

yes the saff seemed to be workin a lot harder to go round the bends but the scooby seemed cleaner, much respect to the saph driver stayin in front

I wouldnt say "owned" but yes the Saff driver had to work harder out of the corners.....come on guys take ya blinkers off.

Dont get me wrong i love rs cars and have had a few,the reason for not having an escos but a scoob insted is that im sure the scoob will be more reliable in the long run, as escos are coming up to nearly 10 years old,my scoob is only 3.

Fair play but i want to see more cossies at scoob track days this year unlike last where hardly none turned up.

Incidently Wigga is that a fiesta 1.25 lx you own???

im not knockin the scoobie in anyway, clean and smooth are deffo quiker.
and like you say st3v3 there is an advantage on transmission, but would that be an advantage or a disadvantage in the wrong hands?

ive had a few good laps with the scoobies at donno and combe

nothing wrong with them.brother has a stage 3 380bhp rwd saff built by steve scott 5 years ago.only thing to go wrong was a head gasket.on original gear box thats at least 10 years old.the reliability comes from how the car is built and kept.scoobys being better in the long run is rubbish.mate had two gearboxes go in 6 weeks through road use costing 800 a time, plus a clutch and a bottom end in the space of a year.plus when a scoob is ten years old it wont be worth 10k plus like escossies are today.

No way does that Subaru have 340bhp...

Just because Escorts fetch silly money, doesnt mean they are worth it or make them a better car. A Subaru with 100k will still feel good on the road, and have no rattles, interior be in good order, unless its had an extremely hard life. can you say the same for the Fords ?

Its just the cult following they have, some people are prepared to pay over the odds for them.

Hell, over here, people have paid around Ł7000 for a shitty old Toyota twin cam corolla !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they are total scrap !!

As for reliability....any car will break if abused. I assume the price you quote for a box is including fitting ?? I guess thats more expensive than a replacement MT75 4x4 then ??

If you abuse a 4wd car, the clutch and box will give bother. Very few are built to withstand bad drivers, from any manufacturer.

As for bottom ends, I know of 3 friends, who's Cossies have shit their big ends...

IMO, a well maintained Subaru, will long outlast a Cossie.

ha good old saph smoke screen worked a treat too

st3v3 just because 'wigga' has a 1.25 shouldnt make his comment any less valid. not like he was giving a technical answer was it.

stevieturbo
i disagree,i know loads of scoobies that are crapping their engines badly now they are 8 yrs odd down the line.
but its all down to how you look after a car and service it imo. mines on original engine, box, diff at 350bhp ive done a driveshaft and a turbo and 150k miles

and as for the toyota's i have to admit 7k is excessive but i do love them cars and have for years before all this fashion thing happened they are a bit like a mark 1 escort for me

well maintain cars stay in the same region as one another.jap cars are expensive to fix once they go wrong.worth sweet fa after a little while and they aint all that.nothing wrong with most cars after 100k.and interior is how you maintain it doesnt go wrong because of the milage.my sierra is hitting 140k and the interior is clean for that as i keep it that way.who's a cult follower?!face it noone will ever agree with one another.even if we all argued til we were blue in the face.if we all went after the same things how boring would life be?

Im supprised nobody has mentioned the weight difference too.

A newage impreza is much heavier than a 2wd saff.

BHP, transmission loss, 4wd e.t.c at the end of the day the Sierra won, quite considerably.

the scooby had so many technical advantages yet the saff still won! car or driver error the saff whooped ass.

I love seeing new stuff get beaten by old stuff.

Think the cossie did very well to stay in front round the corners, it did have the advantage on the straights though. Everyone knows cossies are faster in a straight line anyway

Wouldnt call it an arse whooping though

I agree with lamb chops, cossie stays in front but not an ass whooping in my opinion.

I dont think you'll ever piss of a scooby owner reading this thread by telling em how fast a cossie is.

Chances are if theyre reading this, theyre EX cossie owners.. so know how brutally fast they are

yeah maybe you can afford one but to be fair scoobys are falling in that thrashed region now.have to buy new to pick up decent ones in most cases.if you can afford new scoobs you can a ford an escos that has been well looked after.not all unreliable.depends how they have been kept.seen many scoobys only few years old well over the 100k mark.not many escos's are.ask all the people that own them on here.
