Default 12 door mk4 Escort zetec. Guess whos back... back again! 15/3/10

Well here it is. This has been my project since about january 05.
I bought the car nearly 4 years ago as a 1.4 cvh twin weber carb. Its a 4 door gl model. I know its a 4 door but the shell is mint, as in its never been welded anywhere. Also I have 2 kids so its easier to get the kids in being a 4 door.
Unfortunately I lost the pics of the car when it was completley standard, but I do have lots of pics of it being stripped, parts added etc.

when the car is completed it will have had the following done,
Koni adjustables, rs spec bumpers, and bodykit
sierra cossy rear disc conversion, erst front disc conversion
full efi conversion, rst s1 recaros's, rs s2 rear seats
m3 mirrors with side repeators(originals to be smoothed), twin headlight conversion
delocked and cat 1 alarm and immobiliser fitted, multiTlock fitted,
rs bonnet (possibly might get badboyed), 1800 16valve zetec turbo engine to be fitted (engine originally from a XR3i 130 model)
white dials for clocks and heater controls, on board efi fuel computer
full respray in ford imperial blue, smoked rear lights
full electric pack, full stainless steel exhaust
lowered 40mm, rst lsd gearbox
There is probably loads of bits ive missed so Al add them later, time for some pics

Hope you like the pictures,

Thanks for the thumbs up people
This is a budget build but still it should look pretty good, I hope.
Ive bought a 90 spec escort RS turbo for its parts as the shell is rotten.
Also had new number plates made for it

Time for more pics,

This pic shows how aggressive the front end looks from a distance

Not too sure about the grammar tho on the number plates! Shouldnt it read, I wish my lass was as fast as this?

Ive never seen a cleaner mk4 shell than this either. All the sills, rear arches, doors, battery tray, fuse box, floor pans, inner wings etc are original and the car has never been welded. I have replaced the bonnet as ive fitted a turbo 1 instead and the front wings are being replaced as they are scabby at the bottom otherwise its mint. Once its painted in a couple weeks time it will much better...... hopefully!

I have bought another turbo bonnet now as cant make my mind wether to keep the badboy bonnet or not. Have alook and see what you think, I have pics of it with the badboy bonnet and how it currently looks with its standard turbo bonnet.
This is how it looked this morning,

I started removing the sunstrip but the remembered that I am gonna replace the windsreen with a heated screen incase was wondering why its half missing,

I think I prefer this bonnet, but I just cant make my mind

this is what it now looks like,

Its hard to believe the carpet was mint when I fitted it a couple month back,

White dials now fitted,

Also the heater controls now match,

Alright matey. the engine spec is basicaly the poverty spec, lol.
Im using a 3mm decompression plate and 2 headgaskets to lower the compression. The engine had been stripped, cleaned and put back together with new gaskests and seals etc. It still has the 130 XR3i cams fitted. I drilled and tapped the head myself for the ERST exhaust manifold to fit. Ive also blanked the gas recirculation on the front of the block as the turbo fouls it and ive drilled and tapped a new hole in the rear to compensate. Also fitted is a drain pipe to the sump for the turbo oil return.
So everything is basicaly standard including the turbo but it will be running beige injectors, chipped ECU, front mount cooler, uprated fuel pump, power boost valve etc.
I know its not the biggest engine spec in the world, but it will have to do for now.

Right time for an update people. Ive been busy gutting the donor RS so I can get all the suspension cleaned and painted. The shell is absolutely rotten, its got more holes than tetley tea bag. All that will be left tomorrow will be a shell with its doors and glass left, nothing else. I have the shell and ID provisionly sold to a lad from manchester so hopefully it will be away next week so I can carry on with my escort. The donor RS is given up all its goodies, including Koni adjustables, suspension is all polybushed so it should hold well on the road. I still have to find an ecu and injectors yet then I will have everything to complete this project at long last.

Some pics of the donor car looking sorry for itself,

I paid Ł200 for the donar car. It had a few bits missing like,
both bumpers, recaro's, bonnet, fuel pump, metering unit.

I did get it with a piper cam, chipped ECU, polybushed suspension, koni adjustables, bailey dump valve, stainless steel plates for the underside of the bonnet vents (the vents were in the car when the bonnet got nicked), stainless steel strut top rings, boost gauge, full set of 5 RS alloys with almost new tyres, genuine RS turbo bodykit, braided flexi brake hoses, brand new front calipers, discs and pads, T3 turbo (with almost no play at all on the shaft) Vecta alarm and immobiliser, full stainless steel exhaust, brand new slam panel (not fitted still in the car) 4 new floor pans, (3 of them tacked in place)Brand new front wings. The engine has just been rebuilt hasnt done any miles yet and it includes a brand new sump etc.
Someone nicked the parts I listed above as missing when my mate had it and he just lost interest in it after that.

Well Ive been busy again this past couple of days. The white rs donor car is officially dead. I spent all sunday stripping the back suspension off fuel tank out etc. Ive just ordered brand new wheel bearings, as the car has been off the road a couple years, already had new bottom arms, track rod ends, calipers, discs and pads for it and it will all be polybushed and sitting on koni adjustables and 30mm lowering springs. Im now in the process of cleaning up the stub axles, rear arms, anti roll bars etc ready for paint. Only thing I cant decide is the colour in which to paint the suspension. The car's colour is gonna be ford imperial blue, all the underside is gonna painted with black underseal to protect it so I just ned to decide on the suspension now, I was thinking yellow and maybe painting the fuel tank to match. anybody any ideas or pics?
I hope its gonna be a canny car when finished, a 4 door RS Turbo

Little update,
Ive gettin a lend of a small sandblast machine so Ive been busy cleaning up the hubs, towing eye etc. I also tret the car to new front wheel bearings, the rear wheel bearings will get done when I get round to sandblasting the rear hubs etc. Ive also bought a brand new clutch

As you can see ive started painting 1 hub and 1 stub axle just to get a look at what they will look like in yellow. Now im unsure wether yellow is such a good idea and I may change the colour to black.
I know the sandblasting is the best you have seen but its my 1st time and I only used a small clarks sandblaster. Also I noticed that the 2 front hubs dont match so I am gonna get another hub so they match. I know it doesnt make any difference but I like things to be right. Opinions please!!!

Well time for a small update I think. Ive sold my transit to pay for the paint work on my car so now Ive stripped the engine bay out completely over the past couple days. This morning the lads from the paint shop turned up to collect the car. They reckon it will be back next friday with the engine bay all painted ready for me to fit the zetec turbo engine then its going back for them to strip the rest of the car and paint it.

Its going ford imperial blue
What do you think?

Thanks guys . I need to pull my finger out now and sort a couple of bits ready for it coming back. Ive already bought a brand new braided oil feed turbo pipe today, just need to sort an ecu, map sensor and injectors to get it running.

Well its back from the paint shop with the engine bay all done. Once its up and running its going back for the rest of the car to be done. The painter wants it running to make it easier for him to move it around. Anyway here is a few pics with the newly painted bay and ive started straight away fitting the new engine. What do you think so far?
