Default my grandad passed away last night- question about WORK.

right this has been a massive shock for me, we found my grandad passed away in his shed last night which i am devistated by. the doctors think it was a massive heart attack- but we have to await the post mortem to find out what happened.

question is, i have a week off this week on ANNUAL LEAVE, do you know if i could have this changed to compassionate leave and have my annual leave given back to me as its hardly time now to enjoy annual leave.

many thanks people

There is no way they would give you a week off work to mourn your grandad, a day for the funeral tops, that's about the height of it. Sorry about your loss.

soory to hear your loss mate,

but most companies wont give you the time off if a grand parent passed away

happened to me with my nan which i was very close too

they said only if my parents or sister passed away they would give me time off

the only way i could do it was book my holiday

so i did that, then took a week on the sick as i still wasnt ready to return to work

companies are wankers when it comes to things like this

I think it all depends on your employer. Mine would send me home and tell me to come bac when I'm ready but I'm sure that most would expect you to work. You might get a day if you're lucky. It all depends on who you work for.

I understand where you're coming from paceo, however it's either that or lose out on a wage so I'd have to knuckle down and get on with it, as hard as that might be.

Best advice is to speak to your boss tomorrow morning and explain the situation.

Sorry for your loss, I lost my Nan this year too

Companies normally give you a day off for grandparents and 1 day for funeral.

The law was...

1 week for mum, dad, brother or sister to give you time to sort funeral etc etc and 1 day for any other family...

sorry for your loss
