Default Diesel Experts! Smokin Weasel!

Ive just bought an Escort 1.8 Diesel van,it seems to smoke alot!Ive given it a service and its helped but it it does smoke abit still! It takes a while to start as aswell as the heater plugs are in need of a change, ut would this cause it to smoke when running?

When i say "it smokes" its not plumes but just like its runnin rich and its smells of fuel not oil!

Help much appreciated!

Heater plugs will not have any affect on the smoking issue when it's running on all 4 pots.

What colour is the smoke?

Sounds like the pump timing is slightly out,

try adjusting the vernier style pully on the fuel pump pully and see if it gets any better - it may be that someone has not tightened the 3 allen key locking bolts properly after replacing the cambelt and fuel pump belt, and the pully has slipped on its clamp

Funny Fuel? It has been sat for bout 6 weeks or so and the fuel init was the last and driving it home it was on the verge of running out and when i changed the filter it had sucked some of the shit out of the tank up!

The smoke is black/blue! And it does miss a little at first when started but otherwise runs fine!

Also can u get manuals for these engines? As im not clued up on diesel engines!

Thanks!

All you will do is make it harder to start/diesel knock/smoke worse if you go the wrong way. Completely reversable by turning the pulley the other way and won't do any damage.
