Default cams

Out of these two cams, which one would you suggest was best for use in a turbo charged engine?

Intake:250dr duration 8,45mm lift
Exhaust:252,6dr duration 8,45mm lift

Intake:242dr duration 7,95 lift
Exhaust:243,5dr duration 7,95 lift

Several fundamental problems here.

No overlap data given AT ALL, and thats pretty critical on a blown motor.
No details given of at how much lift the duration is measured
You havent said anything about the engine, like what RPM band it will be working in etc.

Fundamentally, assuming (BIG assumption!) all other things are equal about those two cams, the bottom one will pull better low down and the top one will be better higher up the rev range.

Cam choice comes down to so much more than you have specified there though and is very dependant on the spec of the rest of the engine.

Is it an RST motor? (you said CAM not CAMS)

Stu,

I dont think Karl does much with this type of car..

Chip,

Its a Volvo T5. the bottom cams is the standard T5 camshafts.

the top ones are from a Volvo 850 GLT (none turbo)

Ah well if its twin cam then with vernier pulleys you can alter the lift on overlap yourself at least.

So top set shouldnt give any issues.

Read my comments above, depends mainly on where you want the power.

TOTALLY depends what you want from the car, and what the rest of the spec is.

Either are quite mild.

But you dont need much cam on a turbo car really, unless you limited on boost, or dont mind a car with fuck all low down.

800bhp 2.6litre turbo IndyCars from the 1970s ran cams about as mild as that...

sorry chip, missed that bit.

the car will run no more than 1.2bar on a tiny tiny turbo lol.

just wanted something with some midrange kick, but tbh, sounds like sticking with the standard cams will be best..

If you want midrange kick, have a boost spike!

i did suggest that, but as the boost is controlled by the ECU, i'd have to use an EBC of sorts, or a bleed valve to get the kick..

then theres making sure theres enough fuel there...
