Default fuel economy - how to improve it?

its shite basically
Doesnt matter if i drive carefully for days on end or have my foot stuck to the floor, im gettin about 200miles to a tank either way and im sure thats a hell of alot worse than my old 3i.

What kinda economy are you all getting and what would you recommend to help improve it? Except the normal general service items

First thing is to check everything is working perfectly. Plugs, leads, oil, vacuum pipes, cooling system, sensors and so on. Ones that done you can look at uprateing or replacing old parts for new.

You need to check the AFR. It is probably running rich due to past fiddling.

Check that the diaphragm hasn't split in the vacuum advance unit on the side of the distributor. You'll have to get a bit of vacuum hose, attach it to the advance unit and try to suck through it. If you can suck air through it the diaphragm is split and the advance unit needs to be replaced.

I've had a couple like this and replacing them makes a massive difference to the fuel consumption and power too.
Cheers
Mark
