Default RS Turbo Steering Colum Bushes

Dawns RS Turbo seems to have play in the steering colum and it shows under braking etc.

Apparenlty this is common.. or so we've been told.

Whats involved in changing them ?

Is it an easy job ?

Are the parts still available ?

Parts are available from ford still 2 bushes in the lower column but i would replace the roller bearing & bush in the top also as it all has to come apart .....

Basically if i remember correctly - remove steering wheel - cowling - wiper & indicator stalks - then you will see 2 13mm nuts as yr lookin down into the dash - remove these & the 2 under the dash by the peddles - you should then be able to remove the ignition housing complete - the 2 lower bushes are situated at the bottom off the steering shaft that is now visible due to removing the ignition housing - the roller bearing on the top is situated in the ignition housing itself - there is a white bush u will see also when steering wheel is removed - just remember to take a photo as your doing it as it really does help especially if u 4 get where the spring goes !!!

Hope this helps.........

As above they are a piece of piss, another thing worth mentioning, has anyone been playing around with the rack, i.e removal or anything like this as a poorly re-alighned colum to rack fitting sometimes causes the slack your on about..........

its not just the bushes though that wear hence you change the lot that goes in the tube

Help guys...

Got 3 of the parts from Ford, no problems... but the one thats fooked on the car is discontinued

Anyone got a number 7 from the diagram below ?

I can see this causing a REAL problem for Series 2 owners when MOT time comes round..

Perhaps this is part of Fords plan to get these old bean tins off the road...

You'll know if its fooked, Dawns steering wheel wobbles all over the place under braking and cornering hard.
