vickers' cost him about 2500 i think, but he built it himself so saved on labour etc.

and then it fucked up due to a dodgy oil pump and cost him about another £500 i think

Surely it depends on what is serviceable or not?
2.5k to 3k sound s a lot to me

If the engine isn't mullered i would expect to re-build one for well under 1500 quid and it would only get close to that if the crank needed a grind etc...
