L6. L8 or P8??
A freind of mine has a k reg esc cos , he was told that the ecu was swapped for a L6 which ahmed altered the software to run the 4x4 tps etc.
This means it wont be running closed loop as it should, cant reaaly see why anyone would do that?
how can i tell what ecu it is? what are the differences?
Thanks guys

MOST tuners prefer L8 but I have a feeling it will be hard to find one
of these at the moment.
L6 - NO LAMBDA
L8 - Can run lambda depending on version/software.
P8 - Standard equipment on ESCOS. Superior ecu but the least popular
(And is known to fail often)

Visually they are as follows
L1 small yellow mixture screw ans 2 fixing lugs either side at the front
L6 as above but larger white mixture screw
L8 no fixing lugs and the white mixture screw
There are 2 types of L8 one pre-lambda which has a red sticker one post which has a green sticker.
P8 no fixing lugs and no mixture screw at all unless you have one of the rare early ones that still had the screw but it did nothing.

i found a picture of a L6 with a large mounting bracket on the plug side , this ecu does not have that so i take its L8.... what do p8s look like....

Simon, Paul not catched up with you yet

the p8 looks no different externally from the l8 the co hole is missing on later ones but is present on early ones, the co pot is missing internally.
The p8 can easily be identified by the p8 on the label unless of course someone has changed the lids or defaced the labels.
Internally they can be easily idnetified by the co pot being missing and a large blob of white silcon in one corner supporting a capicitor and the fact the std chip says p8 on it
