Ok, you have the later and more user friendly metering head, however you choice of filter is going to make life difficult, ive got a K&N and i can just squeeze it in and it pushes the lip over ever so slightly, you filter is a lot larger than mine however.
You could remove the post and block the hole with a screw if you are very keen on having that filter..........

hmmm see this is the next question was can i just take the wee post out and leave it ?? wont it affect anything or is it mearly there for easy acess to the co screw if that makes sence
If you remove the post YOU MUST block the hole by other means, the early ones have a screw in, whether its threaded or not i dont know, nothing saying u couldnt tap it though
I'd recommned re-fitting the post for adjustments, the early metering heads were a nightmare because unblocking the hole made an air leak therefore affecting the emissions results, so the post allows adjustment without air leaks.
Will take a few seconds to swap over
