yeah,i'd say that was true.

but the torque figure ( i.e. what makes the car so damn fast ) will be enormous

As long as its got the mega low/close WRC gearing.

Standard Cossie gearing and itd not be half as great, thats for sure.

I thought it was even less 300bhp, but as Martin says, torque is outragous

though will have just as much, if not more, and a far nicer powerband, if the restrictor wasnt there.

common misconception that the restrictor helps torque

The current Focus WRC claims 320bhp with restrictor, I can't remember the torque, but 550Nm seems to ring a bell....

I thought the Focus was 300 bhp / 225 KW ?

Torque is 395 LBS so not THAT massive really ( 535 Nm)

Its the XTrac 6 speed sequential that gives it its raw straight line speed

Not according to this month's Race Car Engineering . And they don't use Xtrac either .

Ricardo 5 speed?

Makes sense as the new rules forbid the use of computer-controlled front and rear diffs dont they?.

So will only the centre differential be ECU controlled, with regular mechanical units at the front and rear

I talked to some people that had a bit of experience with Focus/Impreza WRC and they say it's very likely in 350bhp range, but power is extracted by very very fine mapping, things like that. Also difference is visible between works and private cars. Torque is massive because of massive boost

On new Focus they binned longitunal gearbox for transverse one.

Yep front/rear diffs on "Manufacturers 1" cars are mechanical.
