Default Another drink drive poll, have you ever done it?

Thought this would be an interesting followup to the other thread.

Personally i fall into:

I have driven over the legal limit, but not in the last ten years

Please note, i mean in your opinion over the limit, if you have actually been caught then pick that option instead, im interested to see what % of us have drunk driven and got away with it.

My own "offence" for which i wasnt caught was that i once rode a motorbike about 400 yards up the road whilst WELL in excess of the limit, i justified it to myself as i stayed in the gutter and i never exceeded 2mph at any point, so if i had hit someone i wouldnt have hurt them, and it was about 12 years ago.
Obvioulsy looking back now i realise how irresponsible that was as i could easily have fallen off the bike whilst crawling along on it in the gutter and in doing so i could have caused an accident, although interestingly thats still an issue if you walk home drunk of course which i suspect not many people have considered, so ive added an option for that too!

Yep Been there & done it

Not proud at all - had a row with g/f after a night out, was staying at her place in Cheshire.

Walked out & thought i would drive up the rd & sleep in the car but then remembered you get done anyway so drove home

Old bill followed me from J14 - J10 M6 then pulled the bloke in front.

Very foolish of me & lucky not to have paid the price

I can honestly say i have NEVER ever stepped into the drivers seat even after 1 drink...............just not worth the risk.

the thought of killing some innocent person due to such selfishness disgusts me!

Sassy - absolutley the right approach to take & dont ever change your opinion or lower your standards.

I think DD is taken a lot more seriously now than say 15 / 20 years ago.
It is far more anti social now as the previous thread showed.

younger drivers see it as not even an option

Its one area that changing society`s view got right

I voted. Never driven over the legal limit.

On the subject of pedestrians though, there was a bloke round my dad's end. Everybody liked the fella and he was a nice guy. Weekends though, he liked to go down the rugby club and spend all day drinking. One night he got knocked down and killed just up the road after staggering off the pavement.

IMHO thats still covered by the others.

If you drive the morning after a heavy nights drinking, then you are drink driving.

Never even contemplated it since.

yes.

Altho my worst time had to be when I worked only a mile from my house and so decided to cycle into work one day. Ended up going to the pub and got totally hammered thinking I aint driving so should be alright.

When I decided to leave I started to cycle home was fookin all over the pavement one minute and then over the road the next Had to keep stopping every 500 yds or so and it took me ages to get home and I also fell off when I cycled over a drain cover as it was wet

Sorry but I found that quite funny!! You could still get done for it I think - something like drunk in charge of a two wheeled vehicle

Mum's fiancee was killed by a drink driver. He was knocked off his motorbike. Dad'll kill me.

Though Lord knows why, cos if it wasn't for that I wouldn't be here

yeah i know you can get done for drunk in charge of a bicycle.

apparently, if you are pissed and you have a motorbike but done the sensible thing and decided NOT to ride it home but instead decide to PUSH it home you can technically still get done for it

Ive been there once about 7 years ago. Unfortunately got caught as well (my own fault i know) for speeding and failed a breath test (about 2 in the morning driving home from the City). I was apparantly doing 70 in a 40 through the Docklands and was twice the limit . Went to Court and due to a legal loophole got away with it scot free. VERY lucky but i learnt my lesson and have never done it since.

At least im honest.

Been to Blackpool lots of times and driven home the next day.

I spent an entire evening on the wine at my girlfriends parents vineyard then drove my car about half a km around part of it (they have 100 acres). Technically I did drink and drive. We had one cottage and her parents had another. Also gave me the chance to see what it is like driving under the influence.

BTW - I was the only one in the car and other than her parents who were tucked up in bed, the nearest human was about 2 miles away on the next farm

Closest i've come i guess is driving the morning after a heavy night - possibly been either a bit close to the limit or slightly over.

Never gone out for a session and tried to drive home though.

Once went out after a stupidly long day at work and was ridiculously tired, had one pint and felt hammered - got a taxi home

Thing is, working in motorsport, i kinda need to keep my license

I did it once about 5 years ago, nearly got caught (was pulled over because they thought we were burglar's, but if the breath tested me I would have been in deep shit) never did it again.

Also just remembered, I was out in the city one evening and had parked the car with the intention of getting a cab home with a mate. We were both stuffed from work so had a few beers over the space of 4 hours or so and got chatting to one of the bar staff who showed us a device that sits on the wall where you put $1 in and get a straw to blow into the machine and get your blood alcohol reading.

Apparently these machines are popular Oz wide. I felt OK but knowing full well how sometimes people feel OK but are over, I wasnt going to risk it until I tried this machine. I was well under the limit so able to drive home.

Then a few months later we went out with a larger group with the intention of seeing who could get the largest reading. I didnt get it unfortunately. Point is, do they have anything like that in the UK? Excellent idea IMO

When I was 17, five to six hours after a 20cl bottle of vodka......got about fifty metres, patrol officer had watched me get in the car and stopped me as I pulled out of the carpark.

Those 60-90 seconds, sat in the back of the patrol car waiting for the results to show on the breathalyser (it registered alcohol, but not over the limit, very luckily), felt like an hour...

It may sound weird, but I'm glad it happened, because those 60-90 seconds scared the living hell out of me enough to never touch a drop of alcohol if I'm driving (not even a half-pint, even if I'm not driving for hours)......and, before anyone jumps on that statement, I'm doubly glad that my stupidity didn't hurt anyone in the process.

Well were do i start,

My Step grandfarther spent the last 20 odd years of his life drinking a few cans of Guiness and a half bottle of Wiskey a day, this was to calm his head as he ran over and killed a little girl years back when Drink Driving was not really to my beleif frowned upon, it absolutly ruined his buisness (very sucsessful plumbing buisness) and his time with his family was stressful to say the least, to be honest with you all he has since died and i hope he is out of his misery, and i can not imagine the pain the little girls family have gone through and still probably do go through,

As for me i have the fortune and miss fortune of working all over the world were in some countrys it is common place, there fore on occasion i have done as for the UK nope never it just aint worth it,

I spent a boxing day in court for being drunk in charge of my old RST because a mate took a shit behind the car in front of CCTV in Ocean village Southampton, he got awat scott free i got of lightly for some thing that was fucking stupid, but have a record for it, if i explained the story there is not a rational person on this BB that would agree with the Police,

Mike

Can proudly say that I've never done it myself! I only have one or none at all if I'm driving!! Best way IMO!!

OMFG tho I can't believe that 13% of you have got in a car more recently and drove after having a few drinks

I know each to their own and so on in "most" cases, but guys really come on thats bad

I hate for anything bad to happen to any of you!!
