Default Will the GGR Sports Cat fit up to a Mongoose Exhaust

Currently my Escort Cossie has a Mongoose full stainless system without CATs and it's due for it's MOT at the end of the month. If I assume it won't pass emissions as it is will the GGR Sports CAT/front pipe join up to the rest of Mongoose Exhaust?

Or does anyone have any different (legal and sensible) solutions?

No, the Mongoose is from turbo back, so would have to be modified to take a cat.

Hi Mike, thanks for the reply. But doesn't the Sport Cat come as part of a front pipe (joining to the Turbo), and then joining to the rest of the exhaust. I'm pretty sure my exhaust has a join after the front pipe, although I could be wrong.

Yes, but you would have to cut a section out and weld two flanges to it so that the cat could be bolted to it. The Mongoose system is designed to be completely cat-less.

Oh bugger. Can you suggest anything that I can do here? Or is it just worth trying it for a test as it is first and then if it fails going from there? I'm just wondering whether it's got any chance of passing at all as it is, if it hasn't I might as well get something sorted before putting it in because I don't have much spare time to faff about.

Unfortunately not. What do you do in the way of Catted exhausts Mike?

I don't. Try Glen / Wayne at GGR? The only other thing to do is find someone with a standard exhaust that you can borrow?

Okay mate. Thanks for that. PS Does the original front pipe and CAT section from a small turbo car fit the big turbo, because I've already got those sitting in my roof, I just haven't got the CAT back section.

I'm pretty sure that all ST exhaust parts are transferable to LT cars .

GGR actually recommend their sports cat to be used in conjunction with a Mongoose. I spoke to them about it last year and they will fit it for you.

Thanks for that Sabres. I might ring them up and see what we can see.

Another company JW Racing www.j-w-racing.co.uk phone number 08451232829, do a custom exhaust for Cosworth, blue flame i think.
You can have a section with a sports cat fitted and a normal straight through section so can remove the cat section after MOT.

Here's the pic of the Sport CAT on the GGR Website.

It does roughly look like it would fit when I look at my car and where the join is in the centre section, anyone got any more thoughts?

They supply the CAT with 3 inch collars, it is about 15 inches long so that it can be fitted anywhere that you want on the exhaust but they recommend fitting it on the down pipe.

So you don't get the whole pipe with the CAT in it, it's just the CAT itself and then you have to cut the original pipe as Mike said? That doesn't seem like what the site is saying though, it says front pipe with sports CAT.

You need to check, a lot of the products and info on GGR web site is out of date in the Cosworth section.

I looked into this very thoroughly last year as my friendly MOT tester won't turn a bind eye any more. The very best option is the system from J W Racing but it is not cheap. My Mot runs out this month and I am still not sure what to do.

I'm in exactly the same boat mate, mine's due end of the month and the guy that used to do it for me I'm not in contact with anymore, and I don't suppose he'd be able to do it anyway, and so it'll have to go up to Ford, who no way will pass it. I was looking at the JW system because there were some on E-BAY. I need to sort something soon anyway.

Damned expensive whichever way you go basically, just to get it through a test!

Why not speak to Cossie owners in your regional group and find somewhere MOT friendly .

Maybe that's the way, or maybe I'll just have to bite the bullet now and it won't be an issue again.

Tell the MOT tester that you have fitted an engine from a 1990 Saff 4x4 and then it doesn't have to pass a cat test plus the emissions allowance is higher. Thats how I got round it at MOT time with the GTR

yep, cams right, the car only needs to pass the emissions test relating to the year of the engine fitted, there is a section in the mot testers manual that covers this for modified cars
