Default Encountered a new ST foci....

Have to say, i was not impressed at all with them I was far quicker off the line and we just sat together until 120ish. I thought they would have been a lot quicker than a 10 year old escort

RS2000 versus Focus ST?

He wasnt trying then.

New Focus STs ARE fast.
Modded RSTs etc could beat them, as thats the point of modded motors, but they properly quick for standard cars.

Sorry, I will have agree with the others here, the new ST will kill a RS2000 or a ST170 for that matter. He wasnt trying, cos with 217bhp they ARE a faster car

They go well, i chaced 1 and was slightly quicker than it and i mean slightly half a car lenght maybe.

They are a quick motor but tbh for a 2.5 turbo i was expecting it to waste me.;

Sometimes you get quick examples and sometimes shit examples though, everyone isnt exactly the same quickness

Ive driven both, and id say a new ST is fast, not fast enough for me, but quick enough to justify the word.
FRS less so tho, quick, more than just nippy tho, but not as fast (seat of the pants feeling, dingy style ass dyno).

What you got to remember is that as std these are runnning 0.5 bar boost (7 psi) and a really crappy small intercooler. Get the boost up to around 17-18psi and get the air temps down to 30-40 deg and these are going to be much much more impressive IMO

did think those mini turbos can run that high

with just bolt on mods both are gonna max out about 290bhp

I think thats the limit of them, or so i have heard Kev

It was once said to me (and i forget by who ) " the ST was made to sell numbers, the FRS was made for the job"

Having driven both I would say in a real world road situation with other cars and corners the ST would be quicker point to point. It pulls hard from very low rpm. Both as standard i'd edge with the ST for a road car. RS for modding on a budget and track tho.

Bigger bucks modding i'm sure we'll be seeing some ST's to surprise a lot of cossies over the next few years

I test drove an focus st and a focus rs back to back before deciding on the rs, the reason being the rs felt quicker, even though the ST was showing a bit more speed and the fact the dealer said there is a waiting list for the st. He summed it up best when he said the ST has balls somewhere under there but the RS shows them off proudly like a british bulldog

but Kev, i reckon after test driving the ST with even with more power the 2.5l would deliver power quite smoothly and fit some R888 tyres along with a quaife ATB diff (if they dont already have them as std) i would bet it wouldnt be wasted power

Mike R. wasn't very impressed by it on the Ring.

First words after test drive "It needs a diff!!!"

I didn't have opportunity ot even sit in one though. Probaly typical modern, enviroment driendly, EURO-NCAP "safe", extremly overweight "sports" car. Where sports means aluminium dials surrounds and stainless exhaust end pipe.

Popped in at the dealership to have a look at the ST but walked away after trying to sit in it. Beats me why a modern car go such a high undercarriage for the seats that if you are a bit tall you end up looking into the sunvisor.

Me too. ST is a quick car, but the way it goes about it is just too detached for me, drove an RS the next day (the car I now own) and it instantly put a big grin on my face.
Have yet to have a run against an ST, but the RS does feel more "instant" in the speed stakes. Might be wrong, as the ST is so bloody refined compared to the RS.
Horses for courses tho....I know which will hold it's value better.

He took a std road car on the track... its not exactly built for that.

Yes diff would be a nice mod, but so would a louder exh!

IMO its a cracking car, as I said in my write up

Don't get me wrong, i expected to get wasted by it The guy was trying 110% as well. Maybe he just has a crap one? I don't know. My mate is taking delivery on an ST 3 shortly, so we'll have to see how his goes.

Having had a go at both ST and RS foci, i can say the RS is noticably quicker than the ST.

WTF

How you know he was giving it 110%, could you see his throttle position and rev counter?

Trust me, youd get destroyed by one.

And theres barely any performance differences in a straight line thru the gears between an ST and RS, though the ST has big performance right from 1500rpm, but that dont matter when racing hard.

yeah i'd say a 150bhp escort could easily stay with 2.5 turbo'ed car.....not. either must have not been trying or you have failed to tell us you have a quick car

Having seen a few comments like this layely, maybe people are starting to carry round small placards to put in the window saying
"Not Arsed"
"Giving it 60%"
"Ragging it's nuts off"

Maybe I should start a trend...

Love these threads, a guy was behind me in a VR6 and boasted he hammered me on a BB, however as I pointed out at the time, I was stuck behind a car doing 70 until he left the motorway, so he basically caught up with me in traffic and that constitutes a wasting

How do i know he was giving it 110%? Well for a start he pulled some very silly moves in heavy traffic to try and get away from me. Also who said anything about it being a straight line? I know for a fact i'd out handle an ST. But then maybe i can't as everyone seems to know my car better than me

Also this thread was clearly not posted to try and make it look like i think i can go around beating new ST's. I was very surprised i was anywhere near it. I've actually driven one and i though it was a very quick car.

But sure lay the cut downs on - it makes you big and clever

I overtook an 06 plate Audi RS4 on the M5 earlier that was doing about 100mph in my wanky 1.8 mondeo daily driver.

Shall I put up a thread making out i beat him?

On the other end of the scale I hate cars that dont realise when they getting wasted.
Never forget racing an Audi TT on the motorway in my 3dr, he refused to move over even tho i was flashing him over, and i just followed him, 1car length behind, at no more than 2/3 throttle from 70 upto an indicated 150
Just move over you nob, im not even trying

So you "sat together until 120ish" round bends and stuff eh? Ok mate
Whyd your car out handle an ST? Id be suprised, but ok...

If you driven one, why was you suprised, and why will you ahve to wait for your mate to take delivery of one to find out what they like?

At least if your gonna change the story, say summat that dont totally conflict with your previous posts!
