Default HELP WANTED ON MY COSSY (Anybody!!)

Can any one help me!

my escort cosworth has stopped working properly.

It will run for a short period of time then it will die and the ignition lights will come on and it wont start again, all i hear is a clicking from one of the relays behind the fuse box. after leaving for a while it will then start up. i cannot go anywhere in the car cos i'm in fear of it breaking down. any answers or any tests i can do.
any help appriciated

locate the clicking relay and replace.

Could be the fuel injection relay

try taking off the trim panel where the fuses are and drop the fuse box down so you can see relays hopefully you should be able to trace the faulty one just by pin pointing the clicking. just take each relay out and check condition etc this might show up something good luck

Just had a problem with my small turbo, with a intermittent fault, and was one pin inside the fusebox had got hot and lost all solder round the joint. May be worth a look, doesnt take long to get the fuse box out, just make sure you note exactly what relay goes where as well as all the links and fuses.

you can get new relays from ford still or try atm sport and they will sell you a compltete set of relays i bought the whole lot for about Ł20. atm sport use to strip factory escort cosworths and turn into rally cars so most of the stuff you get has only done delivery miles

thats if it is the relay that faouly..

coulod be the fusebox itself, v common, or the earthing of the loom to the engine..., if the multiplugs come corroded under the bonnet (which they do) thay can make all sorts of wierd stuff happen., the ignition and fuel pump relays go from live through the relay, then earth to the ecu, the ecu uses the earth from pins 1 and 19 to the connections on the inlet moanifold though the multiplugs,
