i have been wondering this really exciting problem for ages...
do u assume on dual carriageway that it is 70 unless stated otherwise, or only if it has the black diagonal sign before it? as there is a piece of dual carriageway near my house in biggin hill that is a couple of hundred metres long, but the road before it and after is a 30... and there are always police in the bay with speed guns.. so is it a 30.. or a 70?

yes i have done my driving test u gremlin... i was just checking, when u go on the dual carriageway or motorway u usually assume its a 70 unless it says otherwise...
guess it was a dumb question but i just wanted to check

If you did your test you'd probably have a highway code somewhere too. You're the sort of person that winds the fuck out of me. You have NO idea of the rules of the road. You have to think about it all the time, you havent actually bothered to remember it.

And you deduce this from the fact she asked one question???
Cock.

i was just asking cos it does say...
Referring to the speed limits...
which implies that unless there is a specific 30mph sign by the dual carriageway then u are to assume it is a 70?
i assumed it was a 30 but it made me think, as you dont always get a nat. speed limit sign coming onto a motorway from a slip road, even if u have come off a road below 60...
rich_w im sorry if i have offended u... you could just ignore my post maybe? i am well aware of the rules of the road and am actually a pretty good driver, not that it means anything but i got full marks on my theory test and have taken both a dutch and german written test too... i used the 'bat' symbol in a slightly tongue-in-cheek way, as i thought you were joking, i didnt realise that u were so pissed off about it.
maybe i should just get back in the kitchen where i belong?

These are the national speed limits and apply to all roads unless signs show otherwise
Speed Limits (mph)
Dual carriage-ways
Type of vehicle
Cars and motorcycles 70

Its a 30 limit what ever the road does untill you get told otherwise (white with black stripe) Same for a 40 and 50. As soon as you've gone through a de-restriction then national speed limit applies. So unless there is a sign telling you your no longer in a 30, its a 30.

thats what i thought... but i was sort of... confirming it as it says...
which could be interpreted both ways.. as that means u could assume its a 70 as it doesnt specifically state its a 30 as there is no sign, or you assume its a 30 as it doesnt tell u its a nat speed... its an odd bit of road, biggin ppl will know where i mean.
im not stupid... i was just querying it... i figured it was a 30.

Fuck knows. But I can read fucking speed limit signs

it says there are NO f**king signs saying what the limit is on that stretch of road you arrogant bloody numpty!!
oh and the braking distance is 13 car lengths...........

street lighting is the thing that makes you assume a 30mph limit... nothing more... you are right to assume dual carriage way at 70mph unless otherwise stated... but if its lit then it will probably class as the 30mph limit - especially if the road before is.
