Default Do/ Can Jap cars Chatter?

I am getting quite moist for a Supra, but all ones I see on vid clips dump, but none chatter (that I have heard) do they have metering units or is it only us Brits that want chatter?

Just curious...

Noooo they fookin DONT!

No DV/BOV makes that fookin noise.

HKS BOVs make a ptchhh like all others.

Only reason people think they make chatter noise is cause they generally replace the recirc ones, and have MUCH stronger springs than the recirc ones (to stop the cars stalling cause AFMs and vent to atmo BOVs/DVs dont mix), so dont open as far or as long (esp at lower boost levels) so it makes the car chatter a bit too...

And yea Tony, any petrol turbo can chatter, dont matter where it from

I got a couple of incar vids of a R34 on track with REALLY silly loud chatter.

A Supra would be a truly bad choice of Jap car, there is SO MUCH better available.

As for chatter, I have an amazing film of Jap Cars drifting, its about an hour long and it makes our idea of chatter sound positively .

Either because they've never been in one or just don't like them. Seriously good cars, would have one over a Cossie any day of the week

dont get your arse out cause you were corrected for giving out wrong info!

and ptchhhhh like every other piston DV/BOV is not similar to chatter. The chatter noise with HKS valves IS chatter, like i explained, and would be even more so if the valve was totaly removed.

if nobody ever corrected peoples wrong "advice" everyone would still belive "chatter" comes from the wastegate, greys mean borewash, and so on and so forth.

everyones wrong somtimes, no big deal, dont have to get all red faced n shitty bout it

I had a TT auto Supra for a while last year........ sweet motor imo, i'd have 1 over any Evo/Subaru.... haven't driven a R32 but the 33 and 34 are imo a better car than the Supra with much more room in the rear.

Heavy. Thats it. If you want a heavy car, buy a Skyline!!

There are quite a few Jap cars that can be bought for a relatively low amount of money that IMO are better than the Supra. R32 Skyline, 200SX, RX-7, early EVO (1,2,3,4 or 5). You could get any of these for under 10k and some for nearer 5k.

A fucking simple answer such as .......

You're not 100% correct there, they make a similar noise but no exactly wastegate chatter would have done ..... without the and smilies.....

Gets up peoples noses MUCH less than sacry comments and smilies.......IMO

Rather have a nice Supra than a 200sx or R32 or early Evo. I used to tool about in Redlines old Castol livered TT Auto quite a bit. VERY thirsty but very fast as well.

Big old barges with a bad 'chest wig' image but great cars to drive. Comfy and very accomplished on a track for a standard car.

Great value as well.

R33 GTR Skyline far superior but double the price for a nice one.

Tony, I think you should have got one before getting all bufty on your RST and I STILL think Benn should get one instead of throwing loads at his saff

Yea but if idve said that id be wrong!

They dont make a similar noise, they make the same high pitched ptshhh as all other piston BOVs, the chatter noise you often hear when running them BOVs IS chatter, and nowt to do with the BOV apart from it not letting enough air out to stop chatter, i explained that in the post.

There was NO in that post at all, only in the reply to the one when u got stroppy n tried to give me grief.

The wasnt at you specificly, it was cause i hear this soo often from people it drives me mad, a bigtime car tuning urban myth.

The way your replys were worded you was getting huffy for being corrected, not cause of how my post was worded (there no or any kind of pisstake in there at all....).

AFMs, metering heads, long filter-turbo pipes, airboxes, etc all muffle the sound to some extent, but all can still chatter.

Plenty of Mfi RSTs around that noticably chatter, jus not as good as if they didnt have the metering head.

Thanks for the sensible replies lol

Lee - I still think I am too young really to own and mod a Supra, I am thinking for a couple year time when then VVTi 6 speed manuals are abit cheaper. I have seen some around the £16k mark but seem to be pretty standard ish.

The main cars I am considering are an Evo 6/7, Supra TT, or R33, all roughly around the same sort of money. I don't want no £8k Supra.

James - You winked at the end of what you said, does that mean are you joking about rather having one than a Cossie? I don't particually fancy a Cossie either, if I did it would be an Escos and they are just too much money for what they are compared to what can be bought for the same money.

Thank for the comments guys.

When I drove an Auto TT Supra, I was absolutely shocked at how fast they were out of the box.

The punch they deliver is brutal - it really is a kick in the back......... cpupled with the kick down on the Auto box, it was quite lively...........

Heavy barge etc etc, but what a motorway cruiser................

Autocar tested a standard Auto and found it quicker than a Lotus Espirit V8 GT around Bedford. Although thats about grip and grunt not handling.

They go and feel very nice to drive though

I thought it handled surprisingly well, but that might have something to with the very wide tyres both front and rear, and the excellent shocks and springs it was riding on...............

Until you drive this sort of car, it's amazing how much they can differ from their "I've never driven one but I'll just regurgitate some stereotype" internet forum reviews.

I went out in one a few years ago, and i remember the guy nailing it on the A13, it was the fastest thing i had been in at the time, and then when he braked after a lorry pulled out infront of us I nearly went through the windscreen , the brakes were truely awesome. Not sure if they were std or not though

It has that wraparound feel that a lot of 80s style Jap cars have (MR2 Mk2 etc) as the dash sort of extends round you.

I found it very comfortable, even if you do sit quite low.

The one I drove was black, and would have looked better with a scrolling set of red LEDs across the front of the bonnet

The TT's are way better than any of the cars C+B have said, apart from maybe the Skybus. Comparing a Supra, even single turbo to a 200sx or RX7 is just silly
