Carb and the hydraulic lifters are in the turreted looking casting of the head. You cant see them entirly but yep you are correct.

I'd take it to a garage and slip them a tenner on the side to do it on a CO analyser, not the sort of thing u want to try and guess...........

Can i ask why u want to lean it down? Presumably running too rich?

i need to run it leaner as yes its over fuelling big time!! 1.4cvh and im getting 59 miles on Ł20 (tank isnt leaking fuel)

its the worst ford ive owned on fuel so far

got pulled over last night and had the lovely policeman jump out the car with a fire extinguiser he thought i was about to go bang judging from the strong smell of fuel coming out the zorst

I'd get it to a garage personally. I had an orion years ago with a 1.4 CVH and it was worse on fuel than the turbo'd one i had next, and it used to play up really bad some times, i think them carbs are a bit shit to be honest with you.

When did this problem start just out of interest?

could be the auto cold start choke - sticking shut so making it run righ - they are sometimes wax operated, so when the engine is hot, it opens the cold start shoke

This is most likely the answer.

Especially is she seems to run a tad better cold than she does hot?
