Default Subarus - just actually HOW shit are they??

I know peeps say they always meltdown and that but is that due to bellend owners/tuners who cock things up.

Lets just say a standard STi for instance compared to a standard saph. Would they be the same speed/acceleration/handling? Due to them being newer is there less that can go wrong?

I've just seen a nice 22B in the village and i love the sound of them

i think even a standard 2.0 sport will piss on a standard saph let alone a 22B Sti

std vs std the scooby is probably superior to the saph in probably ever aspect possible...

A standard STi is 276bhp compared to 220 or 227 [whatever it is] for a standard Sapph

Standard for standard the Imprezza is the better car in ajust about all aspects.

Tuning wise the Cossie wins hands down.

The Cossie only really needs a Stage 1 conversion to address the balance. Subaru's do blow up and cost a packet as my mate is testamony to. 3 engines in under a year and when they pop the whole engine seems to liquidise.

And Subaru's are clits, Every cnut has one

The problem with scoobys is the bloody Jap boost controllers. All these owners are buying em and running too much boost through the engine.

If tuned properly like, they are very reliable and fast. A m8 of mine has a nice RB5, running close to 400 brake. Alll on standard compression. GEMS ecu, uprated injectors, TD05/06 turbo, bigger fuel pump, and BIG intecooler with water injection. They're not all shit, just the ones with boost controllers....

My mates has no boost controller and doesn't run anything more than a full exhaust system, air filter, front mount intercooler and 14psi of boost and the thing has still blown up more times than I care to remember.

Oh oh..... Thats not good. Number 3 cylinder ran lean I expect? My m8's has been that spec for about a year of (Thrashed) use. So far the problems ahve been, 1 dead lamda sensor and a couple of burst boost hoses. Oh, and he killed his FPR, but fitted an uprated one and all has been well. He runs 1.5 bar.

Scoob wins all the way standard.

People keep mentioning them blowing up. It is mostly the jap cars what do seem to go and not the uk cars. Probably something to do with the different ron rating of the petrol we get over here. Remember over in japan they were ran on 100 ron.

I owned a uk scoob and cossie at the same time and i only ever drove my saph but it wasnt standard. My scoob was excellent of the mark but was gutless once into 4th. I miss the noise as well since i got rid of it. Cossie noise more than makes up for it though

All in all there a very good all round car for the money IMO.

But im a ford man and love my cossie too much

Oh yeah i forgot i brought my MY97 scoob to well over 100k and had no problems bar the usual clutch, brakes and tyres etc.

Quarter miled it, 0 to 60's etc and took so much abuse and never missed a beat.

They only blow up if incorrectly modified, as in not remapped to suit exhaust systems, which completely alter the boost curves.

ive been out in a sti type RA and that was fecking mental, god knows how we went round them bends but im telling ya we did,at warp speed!!

Ive also been told that one of the problems with imports is they have shit oil pumps, why they should differ from the uk version i dont know?! But a local suburu tuner/impoter near me reckons when ever they got one over the first thing they did was uprate the oil pump

The mk2's & 3's,regardless of reliability, speed, handling etc, are possibly the ugliest cars ever created. IMO.

standard "53 plate" WRX (not STI) with an exhaust and filter, got munched by my standard saph , all i got is an exhaust lol , funnily enough he had a baseball cap on , his girlfriend was grinning away at me when i came passed , but matey had a face like thunder dunno why?

Of course the Sti versions are gonna kill a standard cossie, cause the cossie is down about 50 BHP to them before they start, plus i do believe that the scoobys are slightly lighter aswell

Our rally Sti has so far eaten 2 TD05 turbo's and 1 engine

Its been mapped correctly too Mike - the engine was due to No 4 bearing picking up and siezing. Wrecked 1/2 the block, crank and 1 head. Its now got a home made baffled sump to help prevent this in future.

Also tried an Apexi boost controller - but it only lasted for about 1 week then it was taken off as it was crap.

We'll see how long it lasts now

Rhys,

Why say that?

I've seen a Sport do some very cool things in the hands of the right person.

My mate has a scooby,u.k model.

It blew up due to a chip change so the subaru garage changed it all back to standard at his request.

They rebuilt the engine and when he was running it in , it fooked up.
in again and it done the same .

they done it again and they run it in,blew up again!

in the end they fitted an engine out of a 30,000 mile car for him.

Seems to be going o.k up to now though.

Has been a bit of a head ache for him owning it, 99 model too.

Dave.

ever seen a crank of a scooby, compare it with a crank of a cossie and you will understand why the scooby's engine blow up. compare a rod from a scooby with the one from an escort RS1600i. the internals from a scooby engine are made of to thin material.

It's a boxer design...............

I believe the reason they sound as they do is to with the unequal exhaust manifold length..............

The thing that needs remembering here is that scooby being japanese is engineered for a purpose - as a road car, not wildly over-engineered like the cossie (good for us of course) Therefore comparisons in modified form are unrealistic, the cossie has much more scope within sensible budgets in that respect.

In standard form though, out of the box, the scoob (more so STi) is a better package than a Saph in most respects. Anyone who can't appreciate this has their head up their Ford tinted arse IMO...

Thing is, (dont get me wrong i do love cossies)
the Design of the cossie engine is pretty old compaired
to the scooby engine, so they are bound to be better/quicker..
BUT!
I'm sure the Focus cossie (if/when it ever happens) will
do something about it!! hope anyways!

Scooby owners all seem to think they own the fastest car ever dont they?
(yes i know they are faster than my car, lol)
